Flourishing Online Community

Maybe it is just because I never looked hard enough for it, but I haven’t seen such a flourishing community rise up around a flight simulator like the MSFS 2020 community has. I have made a personal decision (for the foreseeable future) to stick exclusively with MSFS 2020 as my simulator of choice b/c of the photorealistic terrain/scenery, and now, also because of the wonderful community involvement. Yes, it can be a bit terse at times, but when does that not happen in a family/community. I wanted to thank everyone on the forums for making this (the community surrounding MSFS 2020) as the second most important reason for me not switching back to any other flight sims! Keep on being involved y’all, it’s great!

It’s definitely a strong community, but you haven’t seen the nasty side. That is, the pathetic gate-keeping towards Xbox users.

@aeroedge87 I agree with your opening… it’s astonishing how crowdy this support forum is. Very succesfull medium. Apparently people are eager to share their MSFS experience, also when it does not require support. The discussions about the program’s features and shortcomings are good. They are read by the MS/Asobo team, or passed on by mods, to the MS/Asobo team when urgent. I also think the moderation is balanced, it does not advocate any opinion negative or positive, there is no bias, there are only (quite common) forum rules.

I’d be willing to wager that it is the Xbox sales & not necessarily the PC sales that could drive $$ investment for the developers to keep developing… like Cool Runnings says, “won’t take no craaap off of nobody!” So for you Xbox users, hang tough!

I never really liked the Name: Discord
Wish they had named it something else due to the definition.
DISCORD:
Strife, conflict, contention, dissension, variance mean a state or condition marked by a lack of agreement or harmony . discord implies an intrinsic or essential lack of harmony producing quarreling, factiousness, or antagonism.

We see some “Discord” here in the forum at times.

What’s in a name

The Definition

Discord was almost called “Wyrven.” Dodged a bullet there whew

Sim communities are generally quite pleasant. I think they draw older crowds and they aren’t always filled with gamers and fanboys. Also, the sims themselves are typically non violent so there is less aggressive oneupmanship.

To cap it off, MSFS is the first AAA sim release in decades. So it draws a larger crowd.

A nice combination of ingredients for a good community.

Maybe spelled: Wyvern ?
a mythical being depicted as having two legs, a dragon’s head, wings, and a long tail

Yes Wyvern would have been a great name instead of “Discord”.

Unlike mythosaurs who can be tamed by Mandalorians Wyvern always stay wild. And hungry! :bone:

And you are right - a nice warm-hearted community is very important! Among gamers virtual pilots are the nicest.

This has been a very active forum, people are really nice with helping out or just general chat.
