If you were in managed speed mode too why was your airspeed not sitting at the lower (as you say) FMS values? Ie. Too slow?
Thanks for checking out the approach, it’s good to have more eyes on it and compare notes with this aircraft.

It was flying at the FMS values (similar values to what you showed in your FMS screenshot). But as I was coming off the STAR, and passing the LAM VOR (ie. the DECEL phase), when the speed was going below 200kt, I immediately started putting out the slats & flaps – so it would not have any problem flying at those lower speeds.
Meanwhile, just before the big ‘drop’, ie. while I was still at around 6,000ft level, I set the managed-mode altitude on the FCU to 2,500ft – which is the capture altitude for the ILS… This allowed the aircraft to automatically self-negotiate where all the constraints that would follow (holding the altitude where necessary, and descending again when necessary), until it got to 2,500ft. Then I hit APP button on the FCU when the magenta ILS chevrons had lined up just after the last turn to ‘final’ (by which point full flaps and landing gear were deployed) – and the ‘managed speed’ was steady at V-APP.
As for the data (and speeds) that you see on LittleNavMap, that was simply for my visual tracking purposes of the short journey from EHAM to EGLL.
I don’t do airliners, but figured I’d give it a shot. Used the 8k textures @ 8192x2250 (2 x 2 grid of 4k screens).
Sitting on the taxiway, 37gb of vram used. Takeoff was easy, reaches altitude quickly, great sounds.
Good aircraft for when visitors come over and want to fly something big that isn’t the B2 or B52.
Much better already than many of the LL/FF.
What GPU has at least that much VRAM?
My 2 arc770le gpus have a total of 32 gb of ram, and when that’s not enough, they can dip into the 128gb of system ram, so no problem.
I can cut down vram demand by dropping to 4k, but seriously, having the sim stretched across 2 65" screens is really “immersive.”
The only things different for me with my failed attempt was 1. at LAM @ 220kts I didn’t have Flaps/slats 1 out, 2. I had 2500ft dialed in for target alt from LAM onward in managed mode, 3. I wasn’t manually in approach phase mode. So the slats out early may be the key for you there. I will try another attempt at some point with deploying slats from LAM onward and see how it goes.
I can confirm your approach works. Engage Flaps 1 at 7000ft 220kts and leave it in managed mode. All went fine. I think the only difference is that when you go into Flaps/slats 1, the aircraft quickly slows to the min speed for that level of flaps, so it becomes a very slow 180kt leg before hitting the next waypoint. Not necessarily a bad thing but I prefer the 200-210kt approach speed.
W7900 Radeon Pro (48GB).
My old W6800 has 32GB. I didn’t realise there were dedicated GPUs that could also share system ram.
The Nancy Bird Walton livery reminds me of seeing that VH-OQA went it first arrived back in Sydney after the massive repairs in Singapore. That thing looked very, very dirty. ![]()
I’m really liking the A380 - I’m right up to speed with it now. Also appreciating the knowledge sharing in this topic as well. This was way out of my normal knowledge area (I know older airliners). What an amazing plane this A380 is.
Glad it also worked for you. By the way, I think one is meant to adhere to the speeds that are listed in the procedure for traffic spacing – because in real life, especially at the busy Heathrow, there would be other aircraft in front and behind you.
That’s a fair point that I hadn’t considered. These are speeds allocated by ATC though right? rather than from a chart? So could be anywhere between 220-180kts. I mean the last speed restrictions on that route are on the STAR at LAM @ 220kts.
About airports for A380 - interesting ![]()

Just to add
I made a compact A380 procedures & checklist pdf in my usual layout. For now you can only buy the pdf here -
Airbus A380 FlyByWire Checkliste auf wasserabweisendem Papier .
But it will be free in my ingame checklist mod.

With all this talk of the approach to Heathrow, don’t forget that these transitions from the holding waypoint at the end of the STAR to the final approach are basically never flown. They’re slightly artificial in terms of speed and altitude restrictions, and in real life energy management is much easier.
I’ve just had an interesting approach to R27 at EGNX, from EGLL, via PIGOT on the HEME1A STAR.
When the aircraft got to UPDUK, instead of turning left towards PIGOT, it tried to turn right. The Plan on the ND appeared to be correct, it was just that the aircraft appeared to get a little confused. It did eventually get close enough to PIGOT to make it register.
No biggy though. I’m really enjoying this aircraft.
For those who are struggling with performance and high VRAM usage, I recommend using this mod: https://pt.flightsim.to/file/83925/downgrade-textures-fps-booster-a388nx-flybywire
It downscales some textures with a minimal noticeable difference in quality, and therefore greatly reduces VRAM usage and can improve performance.
There is another mod (https://pt.flightsim.to/file/83938/flybywire-a380x-downscaled-cockpit-textures-fps-stutter-improvement) that does the same thing and is more popular than the first one, but this other mod greatly reduces the quality of the textures, turning into an ugly, very low quality blur, especially in the cabin and cockpit.
I’ve downloaded one of the addon liveries (Emirates UAE 50th scheme) and no matter what with start up and pushback, once the pushback has occurred it seems like my brakes are stuck on.
Park brakes are off, auto-brake is disarmed, I’m following same procedures as normal but cannot move. Any thoughts? No errors I can see.
I restarted twice and same thing, I’ve spent an hour on the ground doing nothing but putting in flight plans and setting things up to no good.
In this case a quick start would be pretty handy…
Might the pushback tug still be there? IIRC, it isn’t visible, but if the aircraft thinks it is still in place, that would certainly restrict your movement.
