Fokker D.VII Captain Sim

Captain Sim has released it’s next World War One aircraft, the Fokker D.VII. Regarded as one of the best aircraft of the conflict, it was the only aircraft named for mandatory surrender in the Armistice Agreement.

It’s certainly a well modelled and textured product and covers both aircraft in the conflict and those used after it. The sound pack appears to be that of the Curtiss Jenny and although the flight model feels plausible, this version in FS2024 requires a near constant pull on the control column to keep it from pitching down (There is no trim on this aircraft). From what I have read about the aeroplane in real life, the opposite is true, with the real aeroplane requiring near constant positive push on the control column to keep it from climbing.

For anyone using FS2024 it doesn’t have the bells and whistles that you might expect, there’s no walk around clickable items, you can walk straight through the aircraft there isn’t any collision and there’s no checklist in the in-game tablet. There is a click spot that allows you to remove the cowling from the engine in the cockpit. (However it’s done in the form of masking tape stuck to the side of the cockpit that you click, from what I can see, it cannot be hidden)

Overall for the price, it’s certainly not bad. A few features stop it being great and I would like to see the flight model more accurately represent the real aeroplane with upward pitch rather than downward in this model.

I’m a D.VII fan and would love one in 2024 (I’m on Xbox) so this is great to see, but the sound pack choice and pitch issue are rather disappointing. It may seem a big ask to have genuine sounds but there are several replicas with original engines flying around the world and I’d like to think getting them recorded and programmed would be possible.

Yeah, but I don’t really think that recording sounds has ever been up CS’s alley, though, has it?

You could perhaps ask Boris too.

I bought it on 2020 and i can confirm it requires positive push to keep the aircraft from climbing

How odd. I haven’t tried it in FS2020, I only wish the same were true in FS2024!

Any idea if this will ever be for sale outside the Marketplace?

Is Captain Sim moving to Marketplace only sales?

for those interested, I’ve done a few paints for it:
