After the last update, every single update in my content manager stalls at decompression. There is zero excuse for this. No other software has issues like this. Not only does it stall. It locks the sim and the sim becomes unresponsive. Mouse moves, but I’m keenly wondering why there is a “Cancel” button when it is not clickable. This forces a hard reset of the sim by killing the process in Task Manager. Something we all want to do when data is being written to the drive. SMH. Not entering a ticket, not wasting my time. MS/Asobo knows it is happening, yet we still suffer.
Yes, it is hard to understand that they did not see this OBVIOUS problem on which I stumbled minutes after the sim update release.
But, I find your issue pretty strange. When I have it, I can cancel the update and return back to menus.
Also, in case you’re not aware, this sequence will allow the decompression phase to complete:
- Exit MSFS
- Open the content folder located at:
(drive_letter):\WpSystem(unique number)\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Official\OneStore - Delete the folder of the plane you’re trying to update
- Leave the .fspatch file present in the “OneStore” folder
- Start MSFS again. Decompression should complete normally.
That’s typically what I have to do, but I’m running the Steam version. I’m in the Content Manager updating payware, so when this happens, it renders the “Cancel” and “Go Back” buttons unclickable. There’s no choice but to force the flightsimulator.exe task to quit in Task Manager. Then I delete the folder, resart the sim and it’ll usually download and install, but not always. If it does install, it usually fails on the next download. I know there is a work-around by throttling my Internet connection in the sim. End-users should NOT have to do that to get a simple download and decompression task to work in software. They need to fix it.
