Yes, it is hard to understand that they did not see this OBVIOUS problem on which I stumbled minutes after the sim update release.
But, I find your issue pretty strange. When I have it, I can cancel the update and return back to menus.
Also, in case you’re not aware, this sequence will allow the decompression phase to complete:
- Exit MSFS
- Open the content folder located at:
(drive_letter):\WpSystem(unique number)\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Official\OneStore - Delete the folder of the plane you’re trying to update
- Leave the .fspatch file present in the “OneStore” folder
- Start MSFS again. Decompression should complete normally.
