Force feedback support

And the reason most likely is that the game is using Xinput API for which “force feedback” is in fact “Xbox controller rumbling”…

I use XPForce for my MS FS Sidewinder 2 Force Feedback joystick.

FS2020 does not have it.

XPForce works okay. Try it. You’ll be happy with it.

Note:
Windows 10 saw the joystick immediately when I plugged it in.

Download “XPForce for FS2020.msi” from the internet and run this installer.

You will run the icon “XPForce for Flight Simulator 2020” and not the
FS icon.

Can’t say I’m happy with it. It mentioned that it couldn’t force my black widow sl 6640 & that some force may not be working, the window kept popping up…It messed up my steam too,its no longer launching
"Fri Jul 30 09:12:10 2021 UTC - src\common\steam\client_api.cpp (636) : Assertion Failed: ClientAPI_Init: Cannot create pipe. Steam not running?

Fri Jul 30 09:12:10 2021 UTC - SteamAPI_Init() failed."

Beh reinstalling steam is probably the only fix now
yep have to reinstall steam now & the probably cant play the game for several days since i need to reinstall all now

And even after reinstalling steam I can’t open it.I regret very much downloading that

i purchased XPforce but have no response or license from the site. does anyone know how long it takes for them to reply??

There should be an email from support@fsmissioneditor.com check your junk mail in case it is filtered.

I would have thought it was automated but just in case, email that same address and mention you bought the product but have not received a key yet.

I hope very much that they will support force feedback themselves somewhere in the future.
My experience with this third party force feedback messing up steam,I will never use thrid party again.
At least I managed to get steam working again. But have to redownload the whole game.So maybe by tonight or tomorrow morning I can continue my journey in Fs
For now i’ll have to do some other stuff.Maybe the vibration of my stick really is broken though. I read that the speedlink black widow sl 6640 has hardware issues inbuild .So that might be it.But for the rest its working perfectly .Only no vibration with turbulence anymore . It would be a nice addition in making the flight experience more immersive…But i wonder if none of the sticks have vibration? Is it simply not supported at all in Flight Simulator 2020.For none of the joysticks?

No FFB support natively at all - hence this thread.

XPForce works for some and I believe Brunner FFB yokes come with their own proprietary software.

Early comments from Asobo seem to hint that the developers thought FFB was basically a stick shaker and had no ideas how many people buy Brunner products and how many retro MS FFB2 sticks are still in circulation 20 years later.

yes i did the support thing as well a few days ago. got the automated response from support and registration but shows no purchase info on my account with them. they did however charge my paypal. online software purchases are usually in the time it takes to send email. oh well ill give m a few more days then dispute the charge.

To be honest ,I never used the stick for another game, bought the stick for previous edition of FS ,FSX so I dont know if it would vibrate for some race game like carmageddon max damage or so. I don’t think ill be buying a new joystick over this, because for the rest the one I have is working fine & thus doesnt justify the cost for a new one in my view. But since there is no native FFB support ,I guess a new one wouldn’t solve it either.

People who wouldn’ t know any better & experience that their stick vibration no longer works in FS2020, while it did in FSX ,might believe their stick is broken & buy a new one just to find out after all that FFB isn’t supported natively in Fs2020 :joy:

I’m very sorry for your results.

I did not attempt to or recommend anything.

I was just stating my reality.

I am still using the XPForce and it is working just excellent for me.

The feedback to the MS Sidewinder Force Feedback Joystick 2 is great.

I’m sorry if your experience is not the same.

Its fine, after a full reinstallation & a windows update the game functions again. It might have been due to the unupdated windows actually. But not gonna try the third party force feedback again. I do hope that one day the game itself will support it

Yes, I do too.

XPForce emulates a fair bit of what you expect from FFB but it is not perfect. Some things like turbulence effects are disappointing, presumably due to limitations on the type of force information the game makes available to the stick. There are also issues with the realistic trim that moves the stick or yoke when you trim where the real life yoke gets out of sync with the visual one on screen.

I also do not think it support all sticks.

XPForce for most people is vastly better than no forces at all. However native FFB support would be a much better solution hence this thread.

So vibration is very different from force feedback which allies force to the yoke to stimulate a real aircraft. But to answer your question, there is a setting in the MSFS settings that allows you to turn Xbox controller vibration on and off. That seeing could be in the off position for you and may be the reason your not feeling the vibration.

My FS2020 is from the MS Store.

Since you as Steam based, I guess my experience could be different.

But, for me, XPForce is not a “Stick Shaker”.
I get good feedback from the stick. If I move the joystick to the right left,
yp or down, the stick pushes back with strong force.
Seems realistic although I’m not a real world pilot.

I would not give up on XPForce if you really want it.

I really want force feedback,MSFSROns …but I wouldnt want to go through all the trouble again of potentially messing up steam so bad that it cant even launch anymore, has to be installed again, wiping everything.
Spend more than a day fixing & redownloading everything…Just for FS2020…too much trouble if there is only the slightest chance that it would happen again.

I"m lucky the stick profile didn’t wipe though, otherwise I’d also have go through the dreadful steps to reconfigure that too.Maybe trying what MTnFlyCO suggests would work & is safer to try ,since itis inbuild…I’m gonna look for that xbox controller setting ingame.

Yeah, hopefully that is your issue and it is an easy fix, good luck.

Oh, while your here, vote at the top of this post if you haven’t already. We can use all the help we can.

@MtnFlyCO Voted for this already yes. If they decide to support it themselves it would be luck yush
Though I would understand more down the line,as there are some annoying bugs in the game atm.
Honestly I thought the vibration of my stick was broken at first. One fine day we can feel the turbulence again with force maybe .That I kind of miss from FSx

i would like to read out the Forces on the stick(s) with the SDK.

my update… i finally got in touch with the XPForce vendor and all is now fixed. Xpforce works quite well with my sidewinder2. So well i replaced my x52 stick. Its fantastic for choppers and stick planes. Now im researching the possibility of using another sidewinder2 guts or building an arduino sw2 emulator for my saitek yoke.
