Forum Dark theme is hurting my eyes

I cant be the only one having this problem. Can someone please enable a normal theme for the forums? there are actually people getting eye strain with this black background and white text, here is an extract from rxoptical.com

“White text on a black background, or “dark mode,” makes the eye work harder and open wider, since it needs to absorb more light. When this happens, the white letters can bleed into the black background and cause the text to blur, which is also known as the “halation” effect.”

I cannot spend more than 10 minutes on this forum as it is causing major eye strain. PLEASE Asobo consider this request (I made this request during Alpha)

Thank you!

Well I for one find it far less taxing on the eye to have a dark theme. An all white screen emits too much light, its headache inducing. A choice of themes would be ok but if its limited to one or the other I like it just the way it is. You may have too much light in your room or too much glare on your screen. Dark themes work better in duller lit rooms and for flight sim, particularly night flying darker rooms are better.

You can change it in your preferences.

Default is not dark.

Somehow I’m the exact opposite. White backgrounds give me eye strain and headaches, while dark or black backgrounds are perfect. When switching from a light theme to a dark theme I can feel my whole head relaxing lol.

I dont know how old you are but in my case being in my mid 50’s I think bright lights tend to be more of a problem at my age anyway.

I’m in my 50s also and it’s the opposite for me, I am not asking Asobo to remove the dark theme as it actually helps other people, but there are others like me having issues with white text and dark background. I am an airline pilot with a class 1 medical so I can assure you my vision is fine lol

Glad you found a solution. I know exactly how irritating it is when the theme colours play havoc with your eyes.

Where is the ‘preferences’ page ?

EDIT: I found it under my ICON at the top of the page !

Me too thanks for the solution !

Hi everyone.

We have made some adjustments to the light theme including, renaming it from ‘default’ to 'light, adding some banner images to make it feel like it is the official forums, some extra padding on the home page between categories, and more menu links.

You can switch to the light theme by:

  1. Clicking your profile image on the navbar
  2. Double-clicking the cog button
  3. Going to interface
  4. Selecting the theme (light)
  5. Clicking ‘Save’ at the bottom of the screen
