Forum Voting Button Issue

There is a weakness in the voting system. The vote button for topics is only displayed at the top of the page. One of the most annoying bugs in the sim has well over a thousand comments but barely half that number of votes. Reason… when a topic opens at the most recent comments at the bottom of the page people do not see the voting option and are therefore unaware that the topic is voteable unless they just happen to page back to the beginning of the topic and see the voting button. The voting button really should also be displayed in the options available at the bottom of the page so that people are more aware that the topic is voteable.

Has the topic been bug logged? If so, voting on topics that have either a bug-logged or feedback-logged tag no longer needs votes. Voting is to get a topic attention to be logged. However, you may continue to vote if you wish.

Unfortunately, the forum software is 3rd Party and not one built by Microsoft. While there are some customizations that can be done, adding a second vote button isn’t one of them. The voting option on the forum is actually a plugin for this software and developed by another 3rd Party.

Maybe include it in the title? (Votable) or something similar. Or a badge.

The biggest weakness in the voting system is that you can only click on the “vote” button. There’s no option to cast a positive vote, or to cast a negative vote. This makes any results absolutely mneaningless.

Such a pity that Microsoft don’t seem to employ any IT staff…

In many cases like you describe, there’s a (relatively) small number of people commenting many times in a topic which increases the reply count but doesn’t change the number of people voting for the issue.

The first time someone opens a topic, it will take you to the first post in the thread where the voting button is visible. The forum software only jumps to posts lower down if you’ve already seen the posts above.

Thanks,
MSFS Team

There is a theme component to move it, although I think at the top is nicest, as like @SeedyL3205 said, first time readers start at the top anyway and should read what they are voting about. Negative votes can sometimes encourage battles as well, so just having positive ones feels better imho.

Adjust the post-voting button to the bottom - theme-component - Discourse Meta

Also, on the off-chance that anyone doesn’t know this, on desktop and mobile (click the blue 6/6 box at the bottom to reveal) you can always touch/click the top and bottom of the bars to insta-jump to the first post and then back again. Incredibly beautiful red arrows show where I mean:

I agree. If you don’t want it, don’t vote for it.
