FPS Decrease after a few Minutes flying! From 40 to 12 FPS

Hello all!

Meanwhile I‘m facing serious issues regarding the frame rates. I‘m spawning with around 40FPS, after ten minutes flight time I only have 25 FPS and after flying for 30 min and more I have barely 12-18 FPS.

It happens independent from scenery, weather, aircraft, etc,… My temperatures are good and I didn’t activate any energy saving mode as far as I know.

My Setup
AMD R5 2600 4,1Ghz
AMD RX 5700XT 8GB
32 GB RAM // M.2 SSD

Good landings are impossible and makes it vatsim unusable as well. If the CPU is the problem, why would the FPS decrease over time and not stay constant like on other setups? I hadn’t this issue a few months ago and it came slowly out of nowhere. Also it hits some flights more than others. However, in the end I‘m always ending up with very low frames.

All suggestions for solutions are highly appreciated!

Well, I was flying yesterday, then about an hour in, things started to majorly stutter. Really impossible. Spoiled the whole experience.

So I went to my settings and turned off ‘Live traffic’.

Bingo.

Not saying that’s your issue, but the influence of all this stuff that’s not immediately apparent can be huge.

I never used live traffic before. I’m not experiencing any stutters at the moment

Well, stutters basically is a similar loss of frames, just worse than smoothly dropping to 15 per second.

But isn’t vatsim a form of live traffic? Not sure how that works…

Kind of yes. It happens without vatsim as well so that’s definitely not the origin of the issue.

Till you wrote that it sounded exactly what went wrong for my 1080. The GPU fans would spin down, and the card would overheat. It kept going but was throttled down so far that the FPS you are seeing is what I had.

The GPU I‘m using is known for high temperatures. AMD said the cards starts throttling down at 105 degrees celsius. I never reached this temperature by far. 78 was the maximum, while cruising it‘s around 68.

Mine was getting to ~90C when it decided enough was enough.

Have you monitored your memory usage during a session to see what it is doing? The sim is known to have memory leaks and over time will begin to consume nearly every last bit of your 32GB. This is especially true if you increase the sim rate. As this is happening you are dropping frame rates almost per second.

I just monitored my flight and it uses 14/32GB on cruise. Around 40min passed since departure.
