FPS huge drop - 3D objects redraw while landing

Since the last update, every time I´m landing, when at about 800 feet AGL, the 3D objects (including airport) disappear and then get redrawn. During this process, the performance is extremely poor.

This happens an any airport, and using any airplane. Tried it on MGGT, KMIA, EHAM, EGLL, LFPG, CYUL and plenty more. Using A320, cessna 172, 747, etc.

Any ideas on what to do? Specs: Ryzen 5 5600X, 32GB RAM, GTX 1080 Founders edition, FS installed on SSD, 70Mbps internet connection. FS Version 1.15.10.0, from Microsoft Store.

I tried disabling phogrametry and got the same results.

I get the same thing posted about it a month ago, and got no response from the community as to a possible fix. I’ll fly into KBUF and watch things constantly redraw over and over again while Im on approach…maybe the update this week will fix this issue…

Exactly same for me , I’m flying in VR and the redraw cause image artifacts

today i got the same thing after start. A sudden drop in fps from a tight 50 to 17. I do not know if the 3d objects were redrawn because I flew into the clouds right after the start

Same at Dallas/Fort Worth International while starting there and spawning at the airport. Just so BAD FPS and lag. I had real-life weather on and it’s raining and clouds. I thought that I fix it by cap it at 32FPS and whatnot however it did not.

What really baffles me is that when the sim was launched, the performace was amazing considering the CPU I had then (Ryzen 5 3600). A couple of days ago I replaced that with a 5600X and the problem persists. It is DEFINITELY caused by the updates. Here´s another video showing it from the cockpit view. It is completely unplayable. I am not expecting 60FPS considering my GPU, but c´mon… a GTX 1080 is not THAT bad of a card. and the fact that is not at 100% demonstrates that the problem is no on the GPU side. And the Ryzen 5600X that I have now is a real monster of a CPU, so that is not the problem, either.

Now with my new system, I confirm that there is something related to the airports 3D or other elements loading process, drawing order or as mentioned above, redraw that creates lag or pauses.

On my new system (i9 10900K, RTX 3090 24GB, 32GB DDR4 and SSD) MSFS is very smooth except when we get close to airports, some small lags and pauses (in my case here) happen as described in this original post.

On my older system, it was unplayable lately due to these pauses and lags around airports…

So I presume this is something that was reported to Asobo a few weeks ago following latest update(s)

I’ve experienced the same since a few updates ago. Drops around 15fps at above 1000-800ft. All airports seem affected in any aircraft.

It’s associated with a CPU load spike and a drop off/inconsistency with GPU load. As someone else mentioned I assume it relates to loading airport scenery as it doesn’t seem to do it at 800 feet descending into other scenery i.e. city/countryside.

I’ve attached some rather amateurish photos of the occurrence.

For me this really noticeable at KSEA… Used to fly there all the time, but not no more for now.

yup.Happening even in small airfields.
It is a MAJOR ISSUE ! Destroys the whole experience

This is what happens with the GPU utilization when landing. You can see that FPS drops to one!

I can say that I’ve been experiencing it too. More specifically at LTFJ and KLAX. The latest updates haven’t really changed anything on my side.

Still the same thing after this last update. Tested in on KMIA, and at about 700ft AGL 3d objets from the airport disappear, respawn and then the performance goes down the sink. From 30ish FPS on approach to about 10-12FPS after the respawn, with freezes. Unfortunately it is completely unplayable for me like this.

I really like the sim, and I truly wanted to enjoy it, but it is impossible to do so with this terrible performance. What really upsets me is that performance was so good when the sim launched. (And yes, I already tried a full reinstall, and the freaking thing refuses to play along).

Yep new update, same old issue. just me or I couldn’t give a stuff about flashy wonderful new worlds like Nordics etc, I just want some performance back so when we land it isnt a slideshow!!!

I was not having problems with this till now. Seems since Update 11 I have suffered really bad lag spikes when landing at airports. So bad that I just crashed on my last aproach, I am really getting upset with this because it has made airliners almost unflyable when landing. I can do ok at the airports I start at as I get good frame rates there but man they drop badly when trying to land.

I get the same (5800X3D/RTX3080) Above about 1000-2000ft I get 50+fps while below that I dip into single digits sometimes. DX11 and DX12 doesnt make a difference. LODs both on 100
