FPS performance - VRAM bug?

RTX2060, RGB VRAM, i7-9600 with 64GB Ram,
when starting at EDDF (Aerosoft Mega airport Frankfurt, Feniy a320) using MSFS 2024 my frames are dropping to 4-7 fps with lowest graphics settings (1080p).
Under MSFS 2020 with high to ultra settings (1080p) and much better looking graphics I’m getting around 20-25 fps

We all know that MSFS2024 has a bad performance and all we can do is hope that Asobo can do something about optimizing the new sim. It’s unbelievable that they created a sim that is so demanding and unstable while they had already a good basis with 2020 version. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

For those of you who experience low FPS with high GPU usage along with low GPU temps do you have rBAR enabled in BIOS and have you tried to disable it? In my case (RTX 3060TI 8GB) it seems to improve VRAM management a lot and the sim seems to stay below my VRAM limit much longer/easier. Of course YMMV…

I have a 4080 Super and I don’t think any of us get good performance with any of Gaya airports.

I’m uninstalling all them!

It’s not about GPU performance alone. CPU performance, streaming bandwidth, system storage bandwidth and whole slew of factors are involved. That’s why some people are affected by the VRAM bug being discussed in this thread, and some people are not.

Most of the time it are bad handcrafted airports or scenery items because i have also problems while my system is upgraded and has a 9800X3D, 1 GB LAN, fast M2 SSD and DDR5 (6000Mhz) ram.

Asobo, Gaya and all other developers of handcrafted scenery items or aircraft has to optimize there products.

Yes but this thread is about VRAM. It’s a VRAM bottleneck!

Why would the other components matter if you’re short on VRAM?

Don’t know if you noticed but that’s been bug logged in the dev forum. No eta for a fix.

Hopefully SU2 will fix a lot of bugs and performance issues.

Read the post I was replying to - the person was complaining about FPS and their GPU, not about the VRAM issue at all. VRAM over-subscription can certainly tank performance, but complaining about performance alone and saying “I have [THIS GPU] and I get terrible performance!” isn’t exactly the same thing this thread is about.

The VRAM problem affects SOME people, not all, and it affects people regardless of what GPU they have.

I have texture resolution set to high and also notice excessive Vram usage.

I am not a programmer but I believe CPU usage, Vram Usage, Ram Usage and even Windows cache are all tied together along with associated drivers.

I was having an issue where my CPU usage was excessive after loading the sim during SU1 beta testing. I increased the size of the Windows Cache and the problem went away.

As the beta progressed, I set it back to “Let Windows Decide” and then still didn’t have the problem.

I use HW Monitor and the information it displays can be very telling. For example it indicates my Windows Cache is almost full when running the sim. There are many other things it displays right down to the nitty gritty.

Anyways just wanted to point out many other variables could be affecting Vram usage as [DrVenkman3876] has been conveying. That’s why it’s so complicated to pin down :upside_down_face:

I see no excessive Vram use on your screendump??
It’s still 2 GB below max. installed Vram.

i believe it is the time it takes to allocate blocks larger than 8mb in system memory expressed in microseconds

It is excessive IMO and that’s using the Vision Jet which is Vram friendly.

So let’s see what happens with the 320v2.

In this case I think it’s a matter of optimizing this airport.

It’s what i said before, Asobo, Gaya and all other developers of handcrafted scenery items or Aircraft has to optimize there products.

MSFS2024 and much addons are not Vram friendly.
The new sim is to demanding on our resourses.

VRAM use is pretty high but at least I don’t have performance issues (this is without frame generation).

That’s a typical low demanding aircraft.

I see the difference between MSFS2020 and 2024 and then i dare to say that MSFS2024 is to demanding. It’s not possible to get a reasonable good an stable performance on high resolutions when flying airliners. The difference between the two sims is so big.

My performance in the A350 is quite good. I can’t speak for anyone else.

EDIT: the PMDG 737-800, even though unsupported, also runs great for me (also without framegen here). This is at MK Studios’ KLGA, with SamScene3D New York City Times, RK Bridgers’ NYC Bridges, and Ini’s KJFK all installed close by:

Will SU2 Beta be available this week? I heard it from a YouTube video.

They said 20 or 21 march.
It will probably be partial at the beginning and expanded bit by bit with further changes and improvements.
