FPS performance - VRAM bug?

the VRAM bug is back in SU5 as well…

I replaced my RX 7900XTX for a RX9070XT for the new features like fsr4 etc. Now I regret it. Never had VRAM issues. I am running MSFS24 with a mix of High/Medium settinngs only clouds on Ultra and can’t use MSFS24 without running out of VRAM budget. I have to disable REBAR to enjoy MSFS24. I lose some FPS like 10 from 94 down to 84 FPS native, bud I can keep my moderate settings, otherwise I have to set everything to low to only keep texture resolution on high. I have no will to set it to medium, because everything looks ugly.

45 FPS locked and framegen up to 90 fliud with Freesync. So I have some headroom. But we should not be forced to disable modern features in bios to run this Sim smoothly. My opinion.

What resolution are you playing at? And what is your TLOD/OLOD?
I run most things on high/ultra on my RX9060XT but I am only playing at 1080P, I would not be able to do that at 4K.

4k with FSR4 quality at 1440p and framegen. Even at balance 1250p it is overshooting vram with rebar on. Rebar stole me 2.5GB of Vram. Instead of 16Gb minus system use 15,5 GB I only have 13,3 available. Thats not enough. Without Rebar I have full 15,5 GB available and sim is running smooth.

TLOD on Ground 100. in the Air 150.

OLOD 100 on Ground. 50 in the Air.

Yeah 1080p ist so last century. I can’t look at 1080p images.

At least I don’t have to deal with FSR and framegen :stuck_out_tongue:

I dont use it Performance wise. FSR 4 upscaler looks better than TAA. And framegen for better frametimes. I have locked my frames at 45 with framegen 90. Butter smooth, except Vram Management

You are right… rebar is the key… i keeped it on during a long time and it was ok, but when at big airports with complex aircraft i was hitting the Vram treshold, and all was ruined…
But i was quiet better in non dense area and FG off…

With rebar disabled, well, it seems not so bad… some stutters when approaching the runway… but it is ok.

Yep. I have the 9070XT as well and unfortunately, the sweet spot for that card is 1440. 4K is a bit much and requires lower graphics settings. In my case I can run it at high graphics settings with some at ultra, TLOD and OLOD each set to 200. I fix my monitor refresh at 120Hz in Windows and I set my sync rate to 1/2 in the sim and that gives me a smotth 60 FPS without having to enable FG. I also leave ReBar enabled.

When testing using the default graphics, ReBar gave me an additional 6-8 FPS higher than when I had it disabled. It’s just a matter adjusting your graphics settings and ensuring you keep at least 2 GBs VRAM free, so as not to exhaust it when things get heavy.

It’s too bad there is no RX9070XT with 24 GBs VRAM

I don’t really have a meaningfull drop in vram either with su5, will do some further testing in the coming days, but it’s no more than 0,4-0,5gb max

for me SU5 is way worse than SU4 im terms of stutters! a lot more stutters when panning the camera or taxiing around. also when flying around in drone camera

Valve is saving 8gb gamers, meanwhile we are still waiting Cooperative Vectors (DXR 1.2 update) and Nvidia Neural Texture Compression (NTC)… (I have still high hopes that we will get these techs and more into MSFS2024 also before new consoles and new nvidia gpus)

Google “Valve Vram Fix” for more info.
