FPS tanks after loading a certain bush trip leg

Are you using Developer Mode or made changes in it?

No

Have you disabled/removed all your mods and addons?

Yes

Brief description of the issue:

When doing a bush trip, doesn’t matter if it’s a stock bush trip or addon bush trip, after a certain amount of legs the fps tanks completely. For example the first 7 legs are perfect, but as soon as I start the 8th leg, fps immediately drops from 60 to 9-15fps.

In the first 7 legs the main thread is around 14.5ms, with leg 8 it’s at 63.3ms.

It’s not the area - when I start at the same airfield with the same conditions without loading the bush trip, the fps is perfect.

Hello,
Flying Japan from Perfect Flight is an addon. Bug Reports is only for issues with first-party products produced by Asobo or Microsoft.

I have moved your topic to Tech Support.

As I understand it, this is the page to contact Perfect Flight for support:

Hi, this bush trip was just a recent example, I have the same issue with the stock bush trips (and saw reports from others having exactly the same issue). I’ll edit my question to make that more clear, can you move it back to Bug Reports?

(Btw I also contacted Perfect Flight using that Product support page but no reply at all, which sucked.)

Have you tried doing the standard bush trip from the normal World Map (same route, same aircraft) and see what happens to your FPS?

Hi, yes, the same thing happened and that was around 2 years ago, shortly after MSFS was released. I even had it with a bush trip I created myself. At the start of a random leg the fps just tanks and the mainthread gets ridiculous high as seen in the screenshots. When I finish that leg and start the next one - the fps is back to normal.

It’s not a graphics setting issue - when flying the same leg without loading that bush trip the fps is perfect. And when I do a leg where the fps tanks it doesn’t matter if I lower my resolution to Lego quality, mainthread remains above 60ms. It’s just a superweird issue.

As I said I saw messages from others posting exactly the same issue, unfortunately I haven’t been able to find a fix or an explanation how that mainthread can get so high.

a 2080S might be a little bit overstressed with

Otherwise, but havent tested yet, might be a theory that in bustrips a specific process is running bring more load in the CPU. But it can also be random and it is more because of the “cache” or the “time which is left” or a setting : I mean then its not related to a bushtrip, more like what some users report in a topic about loosing fps over time. I remember was often TLOD related and it depends on the area the users flight into, but not checked the topic state since a longer while.

Can you mentioned which stock Bushtrip you tried "where it happens allways and each time in your case " ?.. I have not much time, but may be I can try to reproduce the issue somewhen ( or another community members can do ).

You can ignore that  I fly in VR with a G2 and use other things like FSR and Motion reprojection. Normally I have a stable minimum 30fps in VR, making things look smooth with motion reprojection.

If it was a graphic issue I would have the same fps drop when starting at the same place of the leg, using the same conditions.
‘something’ is somehow triggered at specific leg starts hammering the CPU.
Just to test I lowered my resolution in vr with 50% but that didn’t affect the mainthread ms at all.

The first bush trip where I had this was the Breckenridge to Mariposa one, one of the first original bush flights… but that was 2 years ago so i don’t know which leg I had that. What I did then was deleting all the bush trip data, do it again and then at that same leg I didn’t have the fps issue. But that would mean that everytime I encounter this issue at a certain leg I would have to start the trip from scratch again. But again that also shows that it’s not a graphical or performance issue.

The most recent trip where I had this happen was leg 7 of the Perfect Flight Japan trip. Despite the 10-15fps I finished the leg. When starting leg 8 everything is ok, if I start leg 7 again i get the mainthread at 63ms issue.

I have seen those fps drop over long flights posts, maybe they are a bit related, but even when I do a fresh restart of my pc and immediately start that leg I have the fps drop.

Thanks for the feedback btw, appreciate it.

hmmm… I try to put the japan trip on my list, but can’t promise

I little guess I have is: the rolling.cache file. Did you have setup a huge rolling.cache file ?

Since it was… maybe a year ago that I deleted that cache… I assume I have  I’ll delete it and see if that is the cause.

Unfortunately that didn’t fix it. Also weird - I’m at leg 17 now and all legs are ok - except that 7th leg where the fps drops to 9-15fps as soon as I press the ‘Ready’ button.

I wonder if this can be a specific issue with certain legs in Bush trips. But then I don’t get it that i don’t have the issue when starting from the same airfield, same conditions, without loading the bush flight. A bush flight is only a collection of instructions and waypoints right? What on Earth could loading a certain leg cause such a massive cpu/fps hit :-/

not sure… It also checks some additional stuff, like usage of navi, it may do some additional logging ( e.g. I remember that strange logbook-write-issue ), etc… I still have it on my list to flight the bushtrip, but the time, you know

Yeah no worries, only do it if you like to. The bushtrip itself is great though, love flying over Japan.
