Frankly, I'm close to ditching MSFS completely!

Everything worked fine for the last months, I made no changes, then just out of the blue, there was the infamous “insert disc” message, I was requested to reconnect the xbox account (still do not understand why the whole xbox stuff is needed !!), then MSFS reinstalled itself (24h for us poor ADSL users), and all my settings are gone.

I have been trying to have fun with MSFS for the last 3 years, spent way to much money on that, but it isn’t fun, it just has too many problems and apart from looking good.

So I’m really mad. Guess I’ll soon be getting some deskspace back.

Not that you’re in a mood to be schooled, but the “Xbox” component is the “live” or online component of the sim. MSFS uses what was formerly known as Xbox Live for its online multiplayer functionality. It manages your gamertag, social connections and player-to-player interaction. It may also (probably is) tied to authenticate to the various servers that serve all the various live data, too.

In other words, it’s a key component of the entire sim.

Maybe this will help, I hope so.

But I had this issue and it was Bitdefender firewall blocking the game, after allowing the game in the firewall again, the insert disc error went away.

I have no idea why this happened too.

I’ve had this error 3 times in 3 years, and all I’ve ever done is simply click OK and the sim loads normally.

(I have the MS Store version.)

Take a break from the sim then come back to it. I did. I had the same feelings as you did. I took a year off from it and am enjoying it again in the FBW A320. I watched a program last night on NetFlix about the wonderful 747 history. I turned it off and then enjoyed a one hour flight in the A320!

I hope there are less technical issues we need to resolve with our PC setups and getting the sim to work “worth-a-darn” with MSFS 2024. I get tired of reading or hearing about all of the excuses of why my PC is this or that and nothing seems to work. Hence, why so many people use XBox to enjoy the sim/game.

MSAsobo will get there one of these days. It does everything for everybody so what can you expect!

Bought the Steam version and it’s been rock solid through all the sim updates and every time I’ve launched it in the 3 years since I’ve had MSFS.

The problem with PCs is that nearly every one is unique.
From hardware component combinations, user XMP/overclock/undervolt settings in BIOS, O/S build version (and which patches installed), GPU driver in use, MSI Afterburner and/or RTSS in use or not, to which anti-virus / anti-malware program is installed… And that’s before you even get to which third-party add-ons/mods are installed in MSFS.

The benefits from running a higher spec PC far outweigh the potential ease of compatibility/use of an Xbox for me. Though every now and then I am surprised that everything works as well as it does.

Unfortunately I don’t think MSFS 2024 will be the cure all that people think it will be. I hope I am wrong but I feel it’ll be more of the same. The issues will just carry over.

I agree with everything you say there, F737NG. It just gets old having to dig for a solution that can seem obvious to fix something, yet is not documented somewhere.

I have an XBox and never gave a single thought of using it for 2020. It gets down to having the biggest, baddest PC you can afford to run it. Simple as that.

I understand how the OP feels. You have a great flight. Then, the next morning you fire the sim up and it just looks at you and says “nope”. Frak!

In regards to 2024, Bam12208834: It will take at least six months to iron out the issues they will create. I am really hoping that the internal list that Asobo has addresses the issues that we perceive are issues, and that we stay on track to keeping this more like a sim and less like a game. They have done an amazing job considering everything the sim is capable of doing.

same here. I’m on the brink as well. The game insists on going through the five initial setup screens each time i want to play it. Takes 10 minutes before I get the first screen 1/5 about the accessibility options

I keep wondering why I don’t have these problems. I’ve been playing this sim for almost two years, and except for a few isolated issues that I was able to work out relatively easily, I just don’t see it. I guess I’m just lucky - or something.

  • Sim starts up in under 3 minutes.
  • I don’t have CTD’s.
  • Smoothness and framerate are mostly quite good. Not perfect in all use cases, to be sure. But I remain hopeful that it will improve.

I disagree a little bit. I believe some MSFS-2020 updates & bug fixes are purposley being held back, until which time they’ll be introduced into MSFS-2024. That will make the new Sim appear so much better.

Believe me. It IS your system.

firstl empty your community folder. really empty.
if thats no joy start over again with new install windows. only drivers which ship from MS, no 3rd party drivers. have seen corrupt drivers many times.
then install msfs again. this shoukd give you a stabile system

You really think that somebody like Jorg would waste his time devising something this devious?
Yes, I think they have bundled a lot of fixes together in the upcoming SU15. We are getting close to 2024 so they are no doubt trying to address as many issues as possible in the 2020 version but your assumption that MS is pulling some devious trick as you suggest is just not worthy of this forum.

Sounds like a hardware problem to me.

I disagree with you.
I believe MSFS-2020 has run it’s course. You can buy MSFS-2024 soon.

I was actually addressing your accusation that MS is deliberately holding back on fixes in 2020 to make 2024 look good. I consider that accusation which is unfounded not worthy.

I think it’s more likely that the team wishes to dedicate the bulk of its resources to the new sim, which is perfectly understandable. Seems little point implementing things like seasons and the Northern Lights when a) inexpensive third-party packages do it well, and b) a completely new sim incorporating these features is due in only a few months.

I don’t see any conspiracy here. Who would expend copious amounts of energy and resources correcting things that will be corrected by default in a matter of months? It’s basically doing the job twice when you’re only going to be rewarded for it once.

Yeah same. Touch wood I’ve not really ever had an issue. A handful of times my game has frozen when loading a flight. That’s it.
