Frati Falco F8L

There’s one repaint from TiAr on fs.to so far.

Really enjoying flying this! Bought this and the FSReborn 300E at the same time and this one is a lot more approachable when flying time is limited.

Doesn’t look like there’s a manual on the website, but found the manual for the real plane online:

Has this amazingly useful tip in the “Crash Landings” section!

I feel like that’s great advice that works for virtually all aircraft.

This and the FSW Lancair Legacy and the FSR E300 all dropped within a couple of days and (as you do ) I picked up all three. One of the first things I did was take the Falco around the Mach loop on a beautiful Welsh summer day (horizontal windsock when you could see it through the rain, cloudbase around 1200’) and then the same circuit with the Legacy. Then I jumped back into the Falco and that’s all I’ve flown since then. Sorry Raoul. The Falco is just so much snappier than the Legacy, and so much more responsive, and feels so much faster / more powerful. It’s just a much nicer experience.

XBox series X here.

Something wrong with the engine/RPM simulation. Throttle on idle and RPM won’t decrease until flaps/landing gear deployed or positive pitch.
Key binding for the fuel pump doesn’t work.
Trim wheel spins in opposite way.

I’ve managed to get that bound using spad.next, but obviously no use for you.

I don’t know why non standard bindings are used for these common switches, perhaps there’s a tehnical reason to do with the underlying fuel simulation.

I rented the Falco for 24 hours, so kudos to the dev for enabling this. I’ve now bought it.

I must say, I absolutely love it and for the most part it seems a pretty solid release for what appears to be a new dev (although their website states they have experience in the sim, perhaps for another dev?).

Modelling, textures and audio are all excellent. It flies beautifully and ground handling is fine, albeit I’ve only flown it in live weather in the UK and Greece so far, so very benign conditions. Sim performance in SU5.1 Beta is perfect (my sim was having one of its good days, i.e. stutter free).

Some minor issues:

These may be my fault (ignorance on my part etc. so not criticisms as such).

  • There are a couple of bindings I couldn’t set up in the in-game controls, e.g. the fuel pump mentioned above and the g-meter reset; I used SIMCONNECT:FUELSYSTEM_PUMP_SET and B:INSTRUMENT_ACCELEROMETER_RESET in spad.next.
  • I also noticed the default mixture 1 axis binding for the HC Bravo didn’t align with the cockpit mixture lever so needed to be bound to -100 to 100%.
  • I’ve never seen the digital voltage readout indicate anything other than 0.0V
  • The tablet checklist needs some attention I think, there’s a couple of items that don’t seem right. I believe this Falco version has fuel injection rather than a carburettor. The checklist calls for full rich mixture to start but the POH states it should be lean and then rich after the engine catches for a FI system.

The after start checklist looks off too - cut the mixture after start?

Climb checklist has you cycling the prop:

Wish List:
As others have mentioned, the Canopy opening would be really nice.
Opportunity to use the PMS/TDS GTN750.
Use the phones jack to enable headphones
It’s a fairly simple aircraft so it would be good to have full state saving enabled (controls, fuel etc.) at least as an option (why do so few devs not do this?).

Some excellent information on the handling characteristics and how to fly the Falco here:

http://www.seqair.com/FlightTest/FlightTestGuide/FlightTestGuide.pdf

Please be sure to copy/paste all that to the official support page for the Falco! I second the request for the PMS GTN 750.

Bought this today. The internal engine sounds are awful. Sounds like a worn out sports car that is low on oil. If you like that sort of thing…

I did, no acknowledgement from them, even though the auto generated reply says they will respond. I sent it just after I posted here.

They responded to my email to them about a week later; I think it’s a small team so support’s not super-quick.

They responded to mine directly after a short while too. Hopefully something will come of it.
