Freedom Fox (Trent Palmer's Kitfox) by developer Parallel 42

Interesting you say that. I found the same but only since a recent update (or two updates ago), it never used to do that. I ended up mapping aileron trim to my controller just for this plane to counter it. I wonder why though. Fuel is balanced…

I’ve been flying it all day (Stage 2 version) and I’m seeing the same thing. It really wants to throw that left wing down.

I think it’s since they altered it to use the new Asobo physics. P-Factor I guess. But pretty annoying!!

Could be worse though. At least it has AP, so I can put it in heading mode.

Edit: I can’t seem to repeat it now. Only issue I’m having atm is I have no rain effects on the glass.

seems way too much compared to other planes

Yea. I rarely use Autopilot (in any plane) so it makes this Fox REALLY hands-on now. Trimtastic

When you consider that you get two distinctly different aircraft, a number prop and engine mods, four scenery addons / airstrips, and loads of liveries, it is a pretty decent value. I also find myself flying it more than anything else in my hanger, so I feel it was money well spent.

Real airplanes will roll left because of engine torque. This is specially true on aircraft with a lot of power like Stage 2. (you can read a lot of horror stories with the P51 Mustang having too much power on takeoff).

This is why we added trim tabs. During cruise it should fly straight but you will have to fight it during takeoff.

This is something we can adjust based on your feedback. We need to know what variant of aircraft you are using, what speed you are flying at and what the power settings is when you notice this effect.

There are 2 ways for you to adjust it right now. You can add the copilot (click the right seat) or add the OneWheel under the right wing (via the circuit breaker). This will add weight to the right side and compensate for the torque you see.

thank you for the feedback, I’ll try these solution

Any chance the update will make it to this week’s marketplace update? Or most likely next week?

Yep, the Marketplace update is scheduled for today!

Got the plane via marketplace.
Where is this Mod Manager thingie?

Mod Manager is only available for the Orbx version of the aircraft.

Mods contained in Mod Manager will become available on flightsim.to soon.

I’ve just bought this on xbox. I held off for quite a while because I felt the price was a bit high considering the model and systems are pretty simple to simulate. I bought it in a moment of weakness so I’m here now. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

It’s really nicely modelled and I like it. I like the good range of liveries and different variants.

I agree with the comments above though. I’m flying the low and slow variant and I can’t get it to fly straight. In level cruise at 65kt throttle halfway with the wheel on the wing and the luggage on the seat and it needs a good chunk of right rudder to stay straight.

These trim tabs you mentioned, can we adjust them? I expect to use the rudder but there should be a speed where it balances out when flying level. What is the cruise speed it is trimmed for? Even down at 50kt with throttle backed off, should be minimal p-factor but it goes from level to 20deg left bank in 10sec if I let go.

I tried rudder trim and aileron trim but neither made any difference for me.

I didn’t try the passenger but then I don’t want a passenger, I want to fly solo up there, away from the ■■■■ down here. I’ve ended up with autopilot on but then I really don’t want that either, I bought it to fly not to watch it fly itself.

reducing the speed while cruising mitigate the effect for me though i need to constantly apply right rudder to keep it straight. I’m no expert at all but seems that the combo of light weight and powerful engine do accentuate the p factor compared to other planes

P-factor for sure but the trim tabs should cancel it out during optimal cruise, if they don’t you fiddle with them on the ground so they do next time. Not sure if we can tweak these in the sim though. Would be nice realism if we could change them on the ground.

I usually fly the xcub and was looking at the kitfox as a replacement. With the xcub I can control the left/right fuel levels during flight to mostly balance it. I don’t mind occasional tweaks and corrections, that’s flying.

Despite being a regular tail dragger simpilot I was rather caught out by how violently it pitched at the end of braking.

I’m a long way from anywhere so I was fortunate that it didn’t get totally destroyed as the other tail draggers seem to, at least I was able to get out and hang off the tail to get it back on the ground.

The ground was soft and the prop wasn’t very damaged but I had spare blades and so did a bit of maintenance work to replace them.

By the time I’d set up camp it was getting late so it’s time for supper and bed.

Are you observing this only on the Low n’ Slow version?

I haven’t tried any others yet. I think low and slow ArcticFox will probably be my go to.

Nice story lol
