Major Update for MSFS Ramona KRNM Airport (v3) – Now Live! :rocket:

Exciting news for all Microsoft Flight Simulator pilots! The latest update for Ramona KRNM Airport (v3) is here, bringing significant improvements and new features to enhance your flying experience.

Key Updates:

:white_check_mark: Perfect Alignment: The entire airport has been meticulously realigned with the latest MSFS 2024 Bing ground textures, ensuring seamless integration and accuracy.

:white_check_mark: Calfire Apron Construction: Experience the ongoing Calfire apron construction in the sim! While not all parking spots are closed in the MSFS world, I’ve added construction barriers, objects, and red/white markings to reflect the real-world changes.

:white_check_mark: Tower Transient Parking Revamp:

  • New parking spots with custom markings
  • New exit doors and updated signage (including parking fees)
  • Calfire planes have been relocated to the tower transient area—yes, both are still active in MSFS 2020!

This update brings Ramona KRNM closer than ever to its real-world counterpart. And I will continue to update based on information I can collect, from here, in France  Whether you’re a frequent visitor or exploring for the first time, the attention to detail will make your flights even more immersive.

One more Update 3.1 now available. It’s a must-have update for MSFS2024 users. Now the dirt and skid marks on the runway are back! And many other fix and updates.
Remember MSFS20204 users: You need to activate the two scenery folders that are in the .zip file.

It’s by design (Microsoft/Asobo) that all MSFS2020 handcrafted imported airports in MSFS2024 have a basic runway asphalt texture without extra cracks and other details.

MSFS2024 users: starting with this 3.1.0 the .ZIP contains two folders “vbcorp-airport-krnm-ramona” and “zzz-vbcorp-airport-krnm-ramona”. You need to activate these 2 folders in your Community and keep the name “zzz-vbcorp-airport-krnm-ramona”.

Change log 3.1

  • Add car road all around the airport.
  • Decommision the airport light beacon tower.
  • Fix runway texture for MSFS2024. Now dirt and skimarks are back in my scenery when using MSFS2024.\nFix yellow lines on runway. You need to activate the 2 folders in your Community.
  • Fix Philipps 66 signs texture.
  • Fix building missing or duplicate because of autogen buildings.
  • Fix apron texture and taxiway lines (on all other aprons than tower transient ramp).
  • Update construction on CalFire apron.
  • Update some apron textures.

Had a great sunset arrival from KOKB. I haven’t flown to KRNM in a while so I missed a lot of the updates, so seeing the Cal Fire planes was a fun moment.

If I choose not to update, can I continue to pay the lower fuel costs from the earlier editions? Does this strategy also work in real life?

You make my day! ;)))))))))))))))))))))

PS: I was so choked with the price I have to update…

Air Attack Base construction seems to progress well. One of my airport MSFS supporter sent me recently aerial video of the site. The simmer community is awesome. Just for the fun, I may reflect unfinished work. Work-in-Progress: new apron, new design of taxiway entry, Phos-chek tanks…

Here’s version 3.2 of my KRNM Ramona Airport scenery! This is a special update.

There have been massive changes happening at the real-world airport lately, particularly regarding the Cal Fire ramp, which is now almost completed. I have updated the scenery to reflect the progress as of Mid-May 2026, including the 5 new Phos-Chek (fire retardant) tanks installed on the north end of the ramp near the north hangar, along with all the surrounding infrastructure. The old helipad area has also been cleaned up. But there’s also update which are not in the real world.

:hammer_and_wrench: Going Prospective: The Future Cal Fire Setup

This update features a heavy dose of “prospective” design for the future Cal Fire apron. I have added ground refilling stations in the middle of the tarmac with plumbing cut directly into the new concrete.

To anticipate future C-130 operations, I have designed a drive-through/pass-through taxiway system (labeled positions 1, 2, and 3) to improve aircraft circulation. Instead of the traditional “stop forward, then 180-degree turn to taxi out” routine, aircraft will be able to taxi straight through the filling stations. This layout is heavily inspired by the Paso Robles (KPRB) Cal Fire setup.

To bring this fictional/future setup to life, I’ve even added red fire retardant stains on the ground, making it look as though the stations have already been heavily used! Please note that the exact numbering/layout of positions 2 and 3 is pure imagination for now, and I will update them as soon as real-world photos emerge.

Additionally, I have kept a small part of the transient parking for now, but I don’t know what the real taxiway signs look like there yet. If you know, please let me know!

I would absolutely love some local help! If you live nearby, work at the field, or have access to recent photos, official plans, taxiway sign placements, or diagrams of how the final layout is intended to operate, please reach out and share them! I will continuously update this as new real-world data becomes available.

A huge shoutout to Mitch and my fried Romain P. for the feedback via video and email, which helped me squash some bugs and improve accuracy!

:clipboard: Version 3.2 Changelog:

  • Cal Fire Ramp Update: Modeled ongoing construction progress (as of Mid-May 2026), including the 5 new Phos-Chek tanks, a cleaned-up old helipad area, closing one taxiway replaced by a new wider one.

  • Prospective Additions: Added the future Cal Fire apron pass-through taxiway markings, position numbering (fictional layout for now), and ground refilling stations designed for upcoming C-130 operations.

  • Visual Effects: Added fictional red fire retardant stains around the new refilling pits for added realism.

  • Transient Parking: Retained a small portion of the transient parking area (awaiting real-world taxiway sign data).

  • Fixes: Corrected several blue taxiway edge light placements (Thanks to Mitch’s video!).

  • Removals: Removed the Gazebo/Kiosk north of Taxiway Alpha at the Chuck Hall Aviation access point (Thanks to Mitch’s email!).

  • Details: General clutter and detail enhancements around the Cal Fire area.

The update is now available for free. Download it, test out the new drive-through retardant pits, and let me know what you think!

Happy flying, and thank you in advance to anyone who can provide local intel, signage references, or pictures of the ongoing construction!

It’s funny to remember that I started to upgrade MSFS airport because the taxiway naming by default is totally off reality. 5 years later, I now experiment my own custom-made taxiway sign object. Here’s the result of my experiment at Ramona. On the same pic you have the new (rounded and new real font). What are the differences? The proper shape (for Ramona), back side is black (and not yellow) and it allows to have two sided panel (and not two object overlapping each other).

The next update of Ramona, should also revise the Cal Fire ramp from new real photos (thank you John M.) and the expected donation from Jeremy U. (the developer of the outstanding Hemet KHMT for C130 and S-70i static models.

This airport is getting more and more love!

Realtime update of my Ramona airport. Building a MSFS scenery looks like a detective activity. John M. a local witness mentioned some “green boxes” painted on the new ramp. Green looks weird until, Jeremy U. shared an exclusive live webcam pointed to the ramp. Now I can move forward and continue to figure out what are the new ground taxiway markings.

Here’re 2 pic assembled. The new S70i is on spot 3:

Here’s the projected plan. Currently on the workbench in my MSFS scenery editor.

I’m constantly repeating “I’m an amateur developer”. Look how pros are working: https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/4AYdttibbp4 https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/szP4fVphO_g https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/F4gdz31zcnU https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/GGqXhnr00_g

  3. Yellow: Helicopter S70i

Absolutely love the constant upgrades to the Cal-Fire ramp. I am such a huge fan of the CDF aviation unit throughout the state! What a cool idea to have the fire retardant stains showing active use of the filling sites

Do you know how I can get in touch with the KHMT developer? I would love to have better static models of the Cal-Fire aircraft as well.

Check you PM

The next version of my freeware scenery will be a major milestone. Here’re some WIP screenshots. Some details on the landside but also improvements on the airside a.k.a the “pilot perspective”. Because it’s a flight sim after all, like removing an extra MSFS2024 windsock, reposition of the VASI on both taxiway ends, fix taxiway logic (to ease Ai traffic), fix small elevation issues, add an helipad and remove two others…

There’re two main categories of enhancement. First, the new Cal Fire ramp that has just been totally revamped : colored taxiway lines, tanks and tub for the fire retardant (Phos-Chek)… to accommodate the residency of the new Cal Fire C130 (and Sikorsky S76i) in addition of Bronco and S-2T Tanker. It exists for only very few weeks and it was hard - from France - to collect picture. Thanks again to the local John M. for the photos. The second type of update are “details”. Since this scenery first released (4th January 2022) it’s and endless game. This time, I was fed up of the standard taxiway sign object (no offense, they look great!) and now you have all taxiway sign customized: the proper shape, real two-sides and details (that only make me laugh). You will also get with the 1.4 : gate sign entrance, new taxiway patches, some new updates of the real field (like the new Cal Fire entry gate), new startup position spread all around the field…

NB: the new version will still benefit from the fantastic Cal Fire aircraft (Bronco, S-2T) made by Jeremy U. creator of Hemet (KHMT). Thanks again to him!

Welcome to the new taxiway sign object. Zoom on details… just for the fun. I’m not ready to make a huge airport!:
