Freeze and Crash to desktop when starting (Steam Version) SU11

Whenever I try starting MSFS on Steam, it keeps freezing and crashing every time I hit the normal button or safe button, no matter what I do. The Windows version is 11. It crashes after 5 seconds.
Things I have tried:

  • Reinstalling Windows 11
  • Enabling administrator privileges
  • Reinstalling Steam
  • Verifying Game Files on Steam
  • Uninstalling/Reinstalling MSFS
  • Deleting the Community folder
I tried all of these options, but no luck. What should I do in order to fix this problem?

If you haven’t seen this, I would recommend you follow the steps in this checklist:

I went through the exact same thing with my Steam version. I had to give up and delete my profile. It loads now, but I have lost all my settings, controls & logbook. Not happy. I have spent more time trying to get this game to work than I do playing it.

Are you serious ? I am having the same thing happen. I am really trying with this sim, but it is getting more work than it is worth.

It has been fixed and the game is now installing along with the update.

How’d you fix it!?!?

Do you anything for the Xbox X version? I’m crashing on the title loading each time I select ā€˜UPDATE’.

I have no idea how I fixed it, but it’s now downloading.

Same here, just downloaded 40A version, then, when it went to start, CTD, tried emptying comm folder, CTD, then tried safe mode, still CTD. Im on win11 and steam, although there is a windows update that keeps failing (KB5019980), so not sure if related?

I got over 3000hrs in my logbook, surely theres a better solution than that

I can get into FS but when i start a flight my scenary graphics are all different coloured tiles, eg purple, yellow green etc, and then i get CTD

You didnt happen to roll back the beta did u? I did, and i think maybe i corrupted something. To fix that, when i rolled back, i deleted the fs-base folder, and the fs-ui folders then next boot it will redownload like 13gb or something and was fixed but now i have this issue so duno

New here. Reinstalled MSFS for first time while awaiting this update.

Game loads to about 75% and just stops, task manager shows ā€œNot Responding.ā€
I have done everything on that Zendesk link and nothing has changed. Appears to get to the exact same place, and just stops loading completely.

Went to steam to verify install as one last check I can think of, and it literally uninstalled the entire game.

This is ridiculous; it took nearly 12 hours to install it.
Fix this Asobo.

I rolled back to SU10 five days before SU11 update so I think you maybe right as I had to delete the same folders to get the World screen to work again.

Verify install is supposed to do exactly that.

Verify is supposed to check the game; not… remove it.

Are there literally no logs I can look at to figure out why it was getting to 80% and just going to Not Responding?

At this point there’s nothing I can do for the next entire day and waste another 150gb trying to redownload it… again.

You would think so, but it doesn’t.
Verify does exactly what you experienced.
There are numerous posts here stating that.

One thing you can do is note the file name on the progress bar where it hangs up, shut down the sim, find that file in the sim structure and delete it.
Try the sim again. Most times it will not hang up there again.

Thought it was server related, but I’m sure by now the servers would’ve cooled down, but I am still experiencing this issue

You’ll have to clarify; I’ve never seen any file names while the game is loading ever before, just a bar.
And as far as I’ve found looking for a ā€œload logā€ the only responses I’m finding is: ā€˜there is no log’

So I’m genuinely confused how anyone is supposed to figure out where the issue lies.

If I remember correctly, it should, it should say something like ā€œDecompressing (or Downloading), such and such a fileā€ or something similar.

The only other thing I can recommend is following the support checklist I linked earlier in this thread.
