Hi all, is it just me or is this simulator becoming increasingly frustrating to work with?
I’ve spent another morning, first waiting for the update of several Gigabites to complete.
Then to discover that when loading a saved flight, the menu bar doesn’t appear any more
Then when I try to assign a joystick button the menu freezes and I have to get out with Control-alt-delete
and then my time is up before I can even get started to fly.
I am so utterly fed up with this excuse of a program, I wish I could get my money back :’(
It sounds like you might be a good candidate for this advice: Take a break.
Take a couple months off. See how it is then.
If you play a sim too much you become annoyed by your pet bugs. And once fixated on them you might not be able to enjoy the world around them.
Take a break.
They won’t be fixed for two months at least.
And file a support ticket for your issue(s). Make sure your complaint is on record.
This forum isn’t for raising Cain for your pet issue. So we won’t be able to rise up in support of your cause to speed things along.
Updates come every two months and we just got one.
Your issue won’t be fixed next week. And we can’t change that in here.
So file your issue on record and either take a break from the sim, or understand that we in here can’t do anything but hear your issue and agree or disagree with it from our perspective(s).
We cannot change the update schedule from this forum. I know you want your issue fixed yesterday but it wasn’t… so it won’t be for (at least) another two months.
My advice would be: Take a break… from add-ons and mods. These tend to break after every single update, which is to be expected in this phase of the development of the sim.
I keep my community folder empty except some liveries never had any issues. Keep your sim simple otherwise you’re just asking for trouble. Plus I’ve never heard of loading saved flights? I just do my flight and turn the sim off.
Had a blast since last update, fixed not every issue but it’s way better then before.
Yeah it’s the most complicated thing in the world to replicate the world, so sometimes it’s hard.
But everyone’s trying their best…
To answer your question…
The problem seems to be on your side of the monitor!
Cheers!
The advice to take a break, I’m just back from a break, of several months and two major updates later, the simulator is still broken.
Autopilot issues are not fixed where it doesn’t hold its current altitude if the QNH changes,
UI bugs to many to name here, half of the VOR’s are not working (or only transmitting DME). (And yes I’m talking VOR/DME, not tacan or DME only stations).
The only addon I have is the PMDG DC6, and the Fokker F.VII which is made by MS
But I’ve also tried a clean install without these mods.
Microsoft was clearly too eager to make money and released a simulator that doesn’t deserve Alpha state.
Yes I’m going to take another break. Enjoying Xplane 11.
I spent more than 500h on the sim. After an update I rename the community folder and create a new one (never understood why people DELETE it). After the first start I revert back. Never had any serious problems. I love the sim.
Hey there, I understand the problem you’ve described. Yesterday, I saved a flight (the first time I’ve ever done this) only to find that when it was restored the “tab” key would not bring up anything. Also, my navigation settings were not restored. So, ATC kept calling me, but I could not respond. Eventually, they terminated my ATC services. Frustrating? Mildly. Will I stop flying the sim? No, but I will not save/ restore flights now that I know this bug exists. Hopefully, this gets added to their future test scripts now that we know about it.
Why did I say “mildly” with respect to whether or not this is frustrating? First, this is a bug I can avoid - in fact, I have avoided it until yesterday - so I can easily avoid it again. Second, I first played the subLogic Flight Simulator in the 1980/81 timeframe. (Search youtube for " subLOGIC Flight Simulator 1 for Apple II" to see it in all its glory!) We’ve come a VERY LONG way and I now enjoy FS2020 in VR. So, I was disappointed when MS left the Flight Sim market, then pleasantly surprised when they re-entered it with Asobo. Watching the maturation of the product is an amazing testament to technology, engineering, development, and passion - of Microsoft, Asobo, countless developers and other contributors, pilots (real or virtual), and other enthusiasts. What I am most impressed by is that the community and the developers have a good relationship and many community reported bugs are actively being addressed.
Hopefully, the demonstrated commitment to making the product better will lead to either 1) short-term workaround and/or 2) a solution in a future release.
In either case, I hope that you are able to work around any bugs you find and enjoy the product. Or, should you take a break and return to XPlane11, I hope you enjoy it. I’m looking forward to XPlane 12 as I think the competition will make both platforms better! That said, I think the out-of-the-box FS2020 experience is pretty impressive!
I am frustrated with the way Zendesk replies with “working as intended” whenever we complain about the way something works. They don’t seem to get it. We want the way it works to be changed. I realize the forum is probably the correct place to request changes, but that is extremely difficult to get accomplished as well. With all of that said, I am glad that we do have at least some interaction with the MSFS team.
Peoples advice to empty the community folder is good but to really nail down what the issue is, each addon really needs to be added back one by one to try and find out which if any are causing it so that the developer can be notified about the problem.
Have you also updated everything from the content manager?
I’ve never heard of vor’s not working. I fly quite often with my radio tuned into these beacons.
You seem to have a very peculiar issue… curious to know what it is.
And as much as you seem to distrust the money making MS, I am not sure at all that you aren’t running more add-ons, mods, other modifications, etc.
Did you f. ex. experiment with the scenery mod that may not be named? Some people report that deleting it leaves residues that need to be cleaned out manually.
Hi,
After SU7, I experienced many CTDs. After long and complicated troubleshooting, I came to the conclusion that a complete new installation might help. So I deleted and uninstalled everything hat had to do with MSFS. And this worked. No more crashes or other problems with or without my addons after a complete new installation of MSFS.
Then SU8 appeared. Same story. MSFS would freeze randomly after selecting any aircraft. Sometimes it would work, most of the time it would not. It was so frustrating, what a PITA.
So I did the same as I did after SU7. Saved my Community folder and deleted everything else and uninstalled MSFS completely. Reinstalled MSFS from scratch and voila, it now runs without any problem. Even with over 600 items in my Community folder. Luckily I have a fast internet connection. Hopefully I won’t have to do this with every future update.
You can name it all you want, it just can’t be discussed in here.
If someone uses the Google Maps replacement mod, it must be removed using it’s own un-installer.
If the program was just deleted, it leaves the host file with entries that will prevent the sim from connecting to the servers.
Asobo does not recommend using this mod.
Did you purchase anything through the marketplace other than the Fokker?
Do you use any 3rd party plug-ins such as Little Nav Map, etc?
Do you have Navigraph or do you use the sim default NavBlue nav data?
