My Rolling cache size shows 180KB with properties. It never changes, regardless of how many flights I’ve done
Moved to User Support Hub for community assistance.
I’d make sure you don’t have multiple rolling cache files floating around. I’d verify that the file you are looking at is at the location specified in sim settings.
Thanks for the quick reply. The file created in the sim and the allocated size are correct, no other copies of that folder exist. One for MSFS2020 and one for MSFS2024. Permissions are set to allow all users. Neither 2020 or 2024 increase in size following numerous flights.
I originally had both Cache folders set up in the same 4TB NVMe drive (C:) as the Sims, but changed to another 1TB NVMe drive (D:), solely for the cache folders. I would think that the contents of the folder(s) would grow as more data is cached, but both file sizes remain at about 180 KB.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it;s something I’m doing wrong, nor would I be surprised if it was something the sim is doing wrong.
Sorry, now not following. Are you talking about the rolling cache file or something else? Once set, usually 16GB or larger, the rolling cache file stays the same size. Not sure what might be 180KB.
Not sure which other “cache folders” you are speaking about or how you moved them. What is the name and full path of the file/folder you are referring to? Please share a screen shot of the sim settings screen with size and location of the rolling cache file.
Very unlikely this is a sim problem.
My bad, reading the size of the file, it’s 107GB in size, not 182kb. Not sure that addition of flight data ever makes a change to the file within (ROLLINGCACHE.ccc)…
Are you using FS2024 or FS2020 ?. Asking because you tagged your report with FS2024 but a screenshot shows the FS2020 rolling cache settings.
Assuming you use both sims, this actually looks ok. Those folders (one for 2020 and one for 2024) only have 1 file in them which is the rolling cache file. Once set, the rollingcache.ccc file does not change size. And, 100GB seems reasonable.
Sorry for the confusion, I use both and have redirected cache to two separate folders on the D: NVMe drive. Both folders contain the ROLLINGCACHE.ccc file. I’m assuming that either Sim needs it’s own cache file. As I mentioned, the folder is 107GB, not 182KB. I’m testing on MSFS2020 at the moment, but the ROLLINGCACHE.ccc file is at 107GB, and I don’t think it was ever smaller. Not sure that you can see this file grow as flight data is added?
Yes, you don’t want to share the file. Seems good.
Kind of my realization now. Apparently doesn’t grow to the cache limit…
Looks like it is at the 100GB you specified. 100 GB = 107,374,182,400 bytes
Why is the “read only” box checked?
Update: Looked on my system – “Read Only” is check on mine too. ![]()
Title updated & msfs-2020 tag added for better clarity.
Yup. This initially started as an experiment to see if I could lessen the stutters and hesitations that have been introduced lately. Flying the same path repeatedly, I thought that cached data might smooth things out. Had not used and cache in the past, but now, every flight, with every aircraft, 2020 or 2024 results in the4 last 10 minutes of the flight in sturres and hesitations… SMFH…
By the way, the expanded cache idea was a failure. Same flight as always, either sim still results in unflyable stutters in the last 10 minutes, regardless of aircraft or duration of flight…
Six months ago, I was very close to dropping another three grand into upgrades. Now? Not sure…
