Before asking/reporting this issue…
I go between 2020 and FSX. FSX when I want to fly an airline because I like the ease of learning the aircraft- less real world, I realize, but I find FMC’s and very complex autopilots tedious (that’s just me., although I am open to learning…). Besides, 95% of the airline flight is at a flight level too high to need the advanced visuals of FS2020, which I greatly enjoy for GA.
Now the issue-
After running FS2020, if I fire up FSX my joystick/throttle (Thrustmaster HOTAS X) does not work at all. It shows in my PC’s device manager but if I try calibrating or adjusting anything in FSX it tells me it’s not plugged in !! I have to reboot my computer (sometimes more than once) to have it work again in FSX.
Has anyone experienced this and, if so, is there a solution?
How old is the joystick?

Pretty old but I’m sure that is not the problem. There is no problem with the joystick- It works in both sims just fine. It’s only when I switch to FSX after using FS2020 that this happens.
Just a SWAG: it’s possible you have an FS’20 related mod or external program stillrunning that is interfering with the joystick detection through SimConnect or FSUIPC. A reboot would kill such a process, which explains in part why that workaround is valid.
I agree, I’d lean towards FSUIPC. If left running it would hold on to 2020 or fsx. If running just close/kill FSUIPC and restart it. Worth a shot possibly.
I understand your suggestions. However, I have no mods or additional programs running with 2020. It’s just the latest version and no addons. I do have addons with FSX such as Active Sky and moving map.
