FS2020 unplayable | Factors at play: Win11 & HDR

Hi all,

First post, apologies if I’m in the wrong section of the community.

My problem is plain and simply, yet impossible to solve:

I was forced to upgrade from Win10 to Win11 with a fresh clean install from USB with no traces of the previous install for obvious reasons like drivers issues etc (I’m a IT Cloud Architect, so I know my way around).

However, every since installing Windows 11, FS2020 has become impossible to play on because Win11 seems to completely undermine HDR features in FS2020. It’s causing infinite jitter/stutter the second you enter the game and the only way to get out of this is by turning HDR off (which is obviously the ultimate last solution since I’m playing on a Samsung Odyssey G8 OLED).

The OS has the latest patches, updates and even a reinstall of Nvidia drivers just to be 100% sure it’s nothing of the sort causing these issues. I’m suspecting Win11 to be at fault because the exact same thing happens when I open FS2024 (FYI).

Can anyone please shed some light on how to fix this annoyance as I haven’t been able to fly ever since the Windows upgrade, which has been months now…

Thanks in advance for your time and help, please see the video below to showcase my situation.

PC & OS specs:

Windows 11 Pro (10.0.26100 N/A Build 26100)

CPU | Intel i9-9900KF @3.6Ghz (not overlocked)
GRAPHICS | Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti
RAM | Corsair 64GB DDR4 @2400Mhz
SSD OS | Samsung 980 Pro 500GB
SSD MSFS | Samsung 860 EVO 1TB

No issues at all with either MSFS 2020 or 2024 with Win 11 here.

Maybe you should post your exact system specs if you wish to nail it down.

Thank you for this report. We’ve moved your topic into the User Support Hub.

The Bug Reporting Hub is for posting suspected or confirmed bugs that other users are able to reproduce without duplicating an existing bug report. All issues caused by or involving third-party addons/mods should be reported to the third-party developer. Assure that no addons/mods are used when reporting issues in Bug Reports.

You’re right, thanks for the suggestion BoBo. I’ve added the specs to my post.

Thank you for locating it in the appropriate section

Are you by chance using FG? If so, have you tried disabling it to see if it has any effect on the jitter when panning?

I realized I didn’t mention the use of DX12, apologies.

Yes I’m use the DLSS frame generation as it’s mentioned to be natively supported by the RTX 40 series. I use it as it’s a massive booster to my FPS (which always went fine until the upgrade to Win11 happened).

I can provide a screenshot of my in-sim graphical settings if you’d like.

Try disabling FG and see if it has any effect on the jitter you are experiencing. Also is accelerated GPU scheduling on or off? Try both ways.

Hey BoBo,

Thanks for your extensive help and swift responses, it’s much appreciated!

I’ve re-installed Windows after some debating and now it’s working fine. I’ve noticed slight differences between my previous install of the OS (instant driver availability, Windows updates etc) and this one so I’m suspecting something went wrong to an extend last time I installed Win11 - just not extensive enough to notice it with different applications.

Hope you have a great day!
