FS2020 VROnly, which GPU at Minimum?

Hi People!

I have a question for the die hard FS2020 gamers:

We have this setup:
I9-10900F
RTX 3080 10GB Inno3D
32 GB DDR4
1TB SSD
Quest 2 VR glasses

Now the question:

The RTX 3080 is broken and send to RMA. We have to wait 4-5 weeks now. You know this card is very expensive and no possibility to pay for a new one in front.

Is RTX 3080 overkill as a GPU when you’re gamng VR mode only?
And if so, What card do I need to play the game in VR great without loosing graphics which I had with my RTX 3080?

A 3080 is great for msfs vr, but as u know very difficult to source. I cannot recommend less especially as u now know what these gpu’s can do. I recommend a 3080TI, they’re great for msfs vr and available.

For VR 3080=2080ti oc - this should be ok for the most VR Applications.

Absolut minimum is the 1070/ti, but i would it not recommendet.
For the transition period until the 3080 comes back from repair, I would personally use at least a used 1080ti / 2070super.
Also have relatively reasonable resale value.

But don’t expect the same performance as before. 2080ti, 3080 / ti, 3090 are still the best choices for this purpose.

Undervolted 3080ti is quiet, cold and powerfull for VR.

I think he is asking for a cheap temporary solution because he writes that another 3080, due to the price, is out of the question.

I’m not entirely sure what you mean as the 3080 is a powerful card and I don’t buy AMD GPU’s so I would say if you are willing to sacrifice a bit of render resolution you can keep most of your graphical settings with a RTX 2080 Super or above.

For me, my Asus RTX 2080 Ti has great performance but I do have to sacrifice a bit of clarity in my HP Reverb G2 so that’s the compromise.

I did have 3080, with only 150e i did swap my non lhr 3080 to 3080ti. I suggest to find 3080ti for VR and sell the 3080 if it is non LHR 3080.

Not expected these reply’s so fast, thanks for everyones input.

I asked this because if I am right, the Quest 2 has al the hardware built in the goggles so I thought that if I only play in VR mode that I could get away with a cheaper card, thought it would be overkill for the Quest 2, but guess I did not completely got it :slight_smile:

So the RTX 2080 should be the “least” GPU to play the game in VR in good quality.

quest 2 only has computing power onboard to play native quest 2 games, this means the games that u install on the quest 2 itself like resident evil 4. msfs is running on your pc/laptop so uses your pc/laptops power. yes i’d say a 2080 will suffice.

I used a 1080ti that worked well. I wanted more eye candy so got a 6900xtxh
