FS2024, possible to install (and switch) versions?

Hi there,
I am not sure which version pleases me more, release is stable, beta 3 has some niceties…
I have room for several installs, but is this possible?
When I installed the beta with Xbox Insiders my release version was gone.
So, is there some trick or way to have at least 2 working installs?
(I suspect that MS’s love for complicating things with hidden folders and whatnot, makes this not as easy as with any other game from other developer.)
Thanks!

it’s possible to have two installs of MSFS.

The key point is that the beta participation is tied to your Gamertag, not to a specific installation or platform version. That means if you’re using the Microsoft Store version, joining the beta through Xbox Insider Hub app will replace your regular release build with the beta version on that account.

To make it work, you’d need one install from the Microsoft Store and another from Steam - they run separately, so you could have the stable version and the beta at the same time.

Another workaround is to create a separate Windows user account just for testing the beta. On that account, you can join or leave the beta via the Xbox Insider Hub app, restart your PC, and switch between system accounts depending on which version you want to run.
It’s a bit of a juggling act, but it can work.

Alternatively, you could even create a second Microsoft account and purchase MSFS 2024 again on that account. Then assign it to a separate Windows user profile - this way, you can fully isolate the two versions.

But in SU2 Beta I was switching from flighting to live just by joining or leaving the Beta in XBox Insider Hub. Now I’ve joined the SU3 beta, done the survey and all the rest, but I still want to fly the Live version because my real career is there.

Is this possible now just by switching in the Insider Hub? I don’t want to opt out the Beta, just fly one day on live and another day on beta. No matter if I have to switch versions and reinstall each time.

It works the same way as it did in SU2_Beta or any other previous beta – nothing has changed. You can switch between the Beta and Live versions by joining or leaving the Beta through the Xbox Insider Hub, just like before.

I don’t get this. I have the Microsoft store version. Which Microsoft account would be using each Windows user? Would having the Xbox insider app installed in one Windows user, and being in the beta, while NOT having the Xbox insider app in the other Windows user, and have the stable version, work?

Wouldn’t it get the info from the Microsoft account on the user dedicated to the stable version, and replace it with the beta version anyways?

Thanks.

MSFS is linked to the Microsoft account it was purchased on - not to a specific Windows user account. You can have one Microsoft account with the game and 20 different Windows user accounts.

Could you please explain in detail what exactly you’re trying to do with MSFS? I don’t want to guess what setup or result you’re aiming for - the more specific you are, the easier it’ll be to help you properly.

I just want to be able to have the beta version of FS and the stable version at the same time. Beta version because of better performance and stable for playing online with a colleague who is on stable.

Is it possible to have both without purchasing it twice?

Thank you.
