FS2024 Pre-order - I purchased the Premium Deluxe Edition Today 9/19/2024

If you start by playing the MSFS 2024 Standard Game Pass version, do not upgrade this version to the Premium Deluxe edition through the Marketplace. If you upgrade the Standard Game Pass version, MSFS along with any purchased airplanes, airports, etc. will disappear when your subscription ends. It’s always better to purchase the Premium Deluxe version outright rather than upgrading the Game Pass version.

I bought Aviator’s Edition on Steam few days ago, im rarely buying new games today and MFS 2024 will be my game for years so my inner child is happy.
Can’t wait for 19 november. To ease my pain i will be buying some new planes for my premium deluxe of 2020 today on steam and pray that they all will be ready for flying when 2024 hits.

What if I have Premium 2020 and upgrade to Standard 2024. I will miss like 13 new planes, but save some moneys.
Will I still get the discounted new legends etc. because I bought Premium 2020? Or do I need to buy Premium 2024 for this?

If you purchase the standard edition of MSFS 2024, you will still have access to the airplanes and airports that are included in the MSFS 2020 Premium edition.

This has probably been answered a dozen times already …but here goes!
How does the the changeover of A/C happen …?
So, I own own 2020 and have AC in the ‘official’ folder and also those in my community folder.
How (in laymans terms please!) is the transfer of aircraft from 2020 to 2024 handled / need to be handled …is that known yet?
Probably should add I’m a Steam purchaser & PC user

I believe aircraft in 2024 are now stored on the cloud, and not locally, so there is no physical transfer from your 2020 install to your 2024 install. It will download on demand, and you will have the option to store the 2024 aircraft locally should you choose to do so.

The aircraft in your 2020 community folder would need to be copied to your new 2024 community folder. Both programs have separate community folders. You might want to be a bit cautious and not copy them over all at once. Even though they hope that the aircraft will be compatible we just don’t know yet.

The Marketplace stuff needs a few more words … If all goes well you won’t have to do anything for those in the official folder. They will be available automatically and you can choose to have them stream (default) or download them locally to “my library” (previously “content manager”).
BUT … During the Marketplace presentation at this year’s FSExpo it was said “you already own the migrated 2020 version in 2024 if it is available”. The important part being “if it is available”. From my understanding the developers have to sign off their migrated content for 2024. Otherwise it won’t be available.
I have no idea if it will be possible to copy add-ons from your 2020 official folder to your 2024 community folder if the developer has not yet signed off the migrated content.

My plan in the day’s leading up to FS 2024 is to perform a complete “clean” re-install of Windows 11. Once FS 2024 is released I plan to wait for a while before considering to move over any 2020 files (aircraft, scenery etc.) – as we don’t yet know how they will get along.

I regularly backup my FS 2020 files, so they are readily at hand on a spare drive should I need access to them or even re-install the sim.

In one of the earlier presentations they showed the basics on how 2020 aircraft need to be converted to 2024. You can direct port after adding a whole bunch of data points and I’m sure it needs a manifest/json conversion. They said it takes about an hour’s work for developers(without adding any new 2024 features). Obviously Asobo is converting it’s own stuff.

ETA: they show it at 20:30 at the expo presentation. I guess if you want to be the ultimate lazy developer you can drop kick the old model directly into 2024 like a flightsim.to FSX poprt, or it takes an hour apparently to enter hundreds of data-points to accurize it to the 2024 aerodynamics, versus the old fixed data points at the corners and call it done.

Today’s SDK stream had more information about that.

I was trying to find which of the new streams showed the MP with ‘upgrade’ charges for first party aircraft that ‘work’ in 2024, like they have two parallel versions. As if you do get that carryover aircraft in 2024, but exactly as it is in 2020 and then they want $3.99 to upgrade it to 2024 changes that they have when you get them with higher tiered 2024 versions. Like you can fly your old PD aircraft but they won’t have new avionics, opening doors or the more elaborate aerodynamic modeling.

My understanding is, that if you own MSFS aircraft in 2020, they will be upgraded at no charge to you in 2024 when those aircraft are upgraded to that version.

I think you are confusing things. The FAQ clearly states

Will my Premium or Premium Deluxe Edition of Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) carry over no matter what edition of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 I purchase?
If you own Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) Deluxe Edition or Premium Deluxe Edition the additional aircraft and airports unique to these editions will automatically work in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

… and …

For content you already purchased in MSFS 2020, upgrades to Microsoft-produced content (e.g. Reno Air Races, Local Legends, Famous Flyers, Expert Series) will be free to you.

3rd party developers can decide if upgrades will be free or come with an upgrade charge. See the Marketplace presentation at this year’s FSExpo.

They said that about the LL/FF as payware(making the statements about what other 3rd party devs would/could offer). But they showed a fleshed out MP showing the option to purchase an Asobo aircraft and next to it an ‘upgrade’ version on the screen, complete with graphics and pricing. They said that your 2020 P/D aircraft would ‘work’ in the sim, and called them ‘2020 aircraft’. Trying to find a screen grab of it but it was a pretty fast blip and I forget which of the last streams it was in. Funny as much as it’s discussed, I’ve yet to see a question specifically clarifying it asked to date. ‘your 2020 aircraft will work’, that’s it.

Jörg said “will I get the PD planes from 2020? yes. […] are they gonna be upgraded? yes”

Dev stream

Apparently you will be able to purchase currently included MSFS aircraft separately.
You won’t need to buy the FS version as is the case with FS2020.
Upgrades will be free if you had previously purchased them.

The quotes from Newspawnz above are answers directly from MSFS and are from the FS2024 FAQ.

Are they going to be upgraded for FREE…

Standard, Deluxe, Premium Deluxe, Local Legends, and Famous Fliers - Yes.

Third party planes are at the discretion of the developer.

It was the 2020 V35 being shown with new purchase and upgrade to 2024 ‘version’ pricing. May have just been an example? Jorg answers in the newer stream that they will be updated, but only that the standard ones are called out set in stone for every edition. I bought PD as it’s a stupid simple decision, just trying to see how much they manage income from those that don’t. You really have to commit to never ever buying anything first party/LL/FF going forward if you get standard edition.

For FS2024, there is a rent function, where you will be able to rent an addon for a day, and if you decide to purchase it, the rent is applied against the price.
That will make it even easier.
