I purchased this software just over a week ago and have spent time getting used to it.
I have been using other voice recognition software with my flight sim for years and therefore understand the importance of training the system to recognise words and phrases (windows 10 and FS2Crew speech recognition training completed)
FS2Crew is a great program and I’m loving it but I have a problem… FS2Crew recognises the word ON as ARM
I have spent many hours unsuccessfully trying to resolve this issue, adding custom words to windows and FS2Crew, repeating speech training and re-installing FS2Crew.
Please note, this is the only issue I’m having with FS2Crew… everything else works great.
Just wondering if anyone reading this can confirm (either way) if they also experience this issue.
I always find the voice recognition to be wonky at best. Not sure if the technology is still at its infancy, or if my accent is too difficult to pick up properly. I just use auto-respond mode all this time just so there’s some form or cockpit ambiance.
I had that exact same issue a while back when I was just starting to use the voice command, and I find that I have to speak in a deeper voice with a full body sound and clarity of “ON” and put a strong emphasis to the N sound into my microphone at the precise angle for it to be able to detect properly. Not when I’m casually saying on with my natural and relaxed voice.
At the end of the day, I just got frustrated having to speak in an unnatural accent all the time then if it still fails I need to keep repeating over and over. I livestream my flights so it really distracts me and everyone else on the flow so after all that frustration I just switch to auto-respond mode and let the app do its thing automatically. It flows much better after that, and I can relax.
Thanks for taking the time to comment - really appreciated.
It is encouraging to learn that it is possible to get it to recognise ON although, to be honest, I’ve pretty much given up on it.
I love the program itself and it has now become a part of every flight but with things like this, I’m like a dog with a bone.
Sorry to learn that you have also experienced recognition issues … sounds like I have been quite successful by comparison.
Just to reiterate, in my case, FS2Crew recognises everything straight away except the word ON despite using the ‘Custom Speech Training Tool’ (accessed via desktop icon) several times.
So, to wind up, waiting to hear back from the developer who, to be fair, has been very responsive and helpful.
Yeah, I mean, it depends on how fluent you are in English, I guess. For most American english accent people that speaks it as their mother tongue, I’m not surprised if the app is able to recognise most phrases.
So, for a non-native English speaker myself which is literally my third language, I’m not fluent in it and I do have a bit of an accent that is difficult to get rid of naturally. And I always find it difficult for voice recognition to pick up my commands. Even my own Amazon Alexa smart speaker sometimes miss the commands I speak to it unless I’m absolutely speak in slow and clear voice.
Then there’s microphone quality as well that’s also a major factor, if the microphone is capturing the voice in a particular manner and encodes it to the PC in a certain way, it may be indistinguishable sound between ON and ARM. One thing to test is to speak naturally ON and ARM phrases to your microphone using the Windows sound recorder app, then play it back to your speaker back to you. If you feel it sounds too similar between the two phrases, then most likely it’s coming from your microphone than the FS2Crew app.
But yeah, there’s a lot of factor that comes into play about this, your fluency, your microphone quality, the encoder, and how the FS2Crew app decodes that voice command. If any one of this chain is not working the way they should, then something bound to go wrong eventually.
Very much appreciate the time you’ve put into your comments… all very helpful and encouraging… some good news, great support from FS2Crew developer albeit didn’t manage to resolve during a very lengthy session. However, whilst digging around in another program, found duplicate words ON and ARM … removed and bingo… job done. Now, for anyone else coming across this post, the other program is called Voice Attack … been using it for years and it’s brilliant. But, also worth noting, in addition to removing those two words in VA, I had also created a new Windows Speech profile and repeated the training once more so result could easily be a combo of both things
