FS4 happiness

Remembering Compuserve FSFORUM in the times of FS4…A happy place with a very simple simulator…Now, with a stunning product in the hands, I see people extremely anxious and bitter…sad to see

People weren’t expecting much in those days and weren’t connected like now. Of the million customers maybe 100-200 people come here to whine and act like Karens.

Today if you have a problem you go all crazy and ask for a refund or you make an emotional statement about going back to another product. It’s how it works these days.

It’s a public forum. That’s what it’s here for. I paid £109 for Premium Deluxe. I’ve paid for my right to whine.

Yeah only this forum is not for tech support, so whining here is only for theatre or emotional purposes. If you have problems you should contact support.

I want to engage in the community about the sim not read how some people are mad because their expectations are so high. I have to scroll through pages of useless whining to get to something useful.

Fair enough. Another way to think about is that if people didn’t care about this flight sim, they wouldn’t bother to whine about it, so even if we’re a little frustrated with it in some respects, at least we’re not indifferent about it.

But I take your point about having to wade through pages of ‘useless whining to get to something useful’. It’s just a built-in hazard of public forums, I’m afraid. Not a bug; a feature.

A feature, hahaha, well phrased CalUKGR

I think hypothetically if they created a ‘whining’ category, it would contain a lot of posts but nobody would read them. I mean, nobody goes to a forum to read complaints, it’s only useful for the person posting it at the time.

I’m doing it wrong, then. :smirk:

Are their expectations for a simulator functioning with the features advertised at release too high, or have you just accepted a lower standard of product?

Reading about others opinions is exactly what you want here, its engagement in the community. Not all of it is going to be positive if not everyone is happy with the product.

Saying the CEO of Asobo should be removed or saying you are about to ask for a refund is of no use of the community i think most people will agree all these kinds of posts are not meant to be engagement in the community.

I’m having some new bugs now too like i can’t change the sensitivity settings of the controls, and we can discuss that but saying that i’m moving back to X-plane or asking a refund because of issues like that is my personal choice and not interesting for the community.

Also if i post something about the new patch it will be moved to a megathread, but all the unreasonable whining posts each get their own thread. Maybe a complains thread is a good idea for the people looking for more informational posts.

Agreed. I couldn’t care less if people are going to go back to other simulators. However most of the time when you mention issues or missing features on this forum, you get put in the ‘complainer’ corner for not accepting the sim for the state it’s in.

I just want this product to be a simulator, not a buggy game. It’s getting better e.g. live weather finally works, but there are some backwards steps as you’ve said with the sensitivity. I’m not sure if my sensitivity settings are still there and it’s just a UI issue, but I forsee it being a problem for new purchasers.

As for the topic merging, it annoys me immensely. It makes for off track and mashed topics that don’t make sense. You can’t read them, or work out who is replying to who if people don’t use the reply to user function.

Well, it’s also the mindset…

If the sim is working for you, then everybody is a whiner… if it’s not working for you, then even though you are looking for help, you get stamped as a whiner, as everybody elses sim is working.

Last night i browsed the forums as i was looking for a fix for the CTD problem i was having after patching. In the end i reinstalled and emptied the community folder and that seemed to have fixed the problems i was having… i jumped back to the posts i’d made last night and, to be honest, i wasn’t much positive, so i deleted some of them. I guess Everyone wants it to work properly and flawlessly, yet everyone of us has different systems, addons, hickups… must be a Pita to try and work out every flaw that people find and report. kudos to the devs to keep a clear head… even though i guess they are swamped in tickets right now.

Hope to see all of you in the air soon.

kindest regards,

Steiny

A couple thoughts to consider.
If it is advertised as a simulator it should be a simulator. (not a game)
If it advertises specific features those features should work as advertised.
If an item is included it said item should function similar to it’s real world counterpart.
These are just general thoughts and one must accept it not to be an exact representation of the real world. But a lot of things are directly and or indirectly advertised that have not been seen by the general flight sim community. Perhaps this should be a thread of it’s own but some of the post might need a little reality check both ways.

Just finished a 74 miles flight from Phoenix Deer Valley to Sedona, C172 Garmim, beautiful. After the patch, more 10-15% FPS and, more important, very smooth.
The program have problems, I think will be much better in a year, and, the addons will enhance, as always, very much the experience. Ai Traffic needs that clearly.
But it is much better enjoy this game-simulator now, As Real as It Gets. Then I would like to see less agressive/ironic/destrutive criticism

I´m 64 years old, enjoying all version of FS since FS4. We can have a much more friendly space here. MS is listening and working…all will be better

I´m from Brazil, sorry for my bad english

You stated your thoughts and words well and clear. Glad to hear you enjoy the experience as it is.

I remember my first PC 486 DX50 with 4MB RAM and 50MB disk. FS4 was perfect but that price of PC in 1994

I remember that time as started my programmer career and had at home powerfull PC that my comapny hasn’t mormally hahahaha only at Finance as Server for data

FS4 release was 1989. FS 5.0 late 1993. Umplayable until MS realease a 5.1 patch, even with an expensive (almost impossible for us here in Brazil) 486 DX50 the frame rate was very very low. Big pauses. I worked a entire year designing sceneries/airports for Brazil, because that was the first version where south hemisphere could be used. Do that with help from skilled people from Compuserve Fsforum

Don’t have problems with FS4 on my 486 PC at that time and SubLogic did released some scenery disks about Europe - Paris and Frankfurt??? I remember then use of Jumbo for first time

The way I see it is that previous flight sims were great or at least acceptable for the time period they were released in. It’s 2020…14 years after the last version. PC gaming technology, software and hardware has improved incredibly since then. MSFS was hyped as next gen but so far has fallen well short of what is to be expected. I miss the glory days of previous flight sims.

FS4 have no problems. The problem arrived really with FS5, the first one using textures, not CAD lines as FS4. But my point is, evem these days of FS5 launch, before the 5.1 update, users are less agressive against the developers. I´m having much less problem with this stunning FS 2020 than with any others before. FSX on the launch was terrible, just got good after de Acceleration Pack
