Lockheed’s target base is not consumers, but rather professional training solutions. The fact gamers / sim enthusiasts are willing to pay them big bucks for their sim and spend a small fortune on add-ons is a side-business for them and they’re happy to sell it to you. But you and I aren’t their intended audience, and they have nothing to say to us. They don’t really care about the people spending a couple of hundred bucks on their software. They look towards corporate customers willing to sink tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars into flight training solutions and long-terms support contracts.
EDIT:
And while X-Plane does target consumers, really their ideal customers are also professional training solutions. So those customers willing to spend the huge bucks on training solutions will always come first.
MS, on the other hand, have decided to target the gamer and console market instead.
