Mine just activated but getting very low FPS. Must be a setting I am missing.
It will activate only if AMD FSR 4 Upscaling is enabled in the sim - the setting there in Adrenalin is not related to AMD FSR 4 Frame Generation.
Yes, you will get lower fps on the 7000 series gpu’s as they lack the hardware that the 9000 series gpu’s have to optimize the upscaling process. On my 7900xtx I get roughly 3-5 less fps when I turn on upscaling and use the latest 4.1.1 driver. If your gpu is a more entry level 7000 series then I would guess that the fps hit would be higher.
REQUEST FOR Asobo - please add indicator to the FPS ovelay, to indicate DLSS / FSR versions being used for BOTH Anti-Aliasing and Frame Generation.
Also, with triple screens and an NVIDIA GPU, I rely HEAVILY on FSR Frame Generation (because DLSS FG only works on 1 screen).
Please ENSURE that FSR Frame Generation on NVIDIA GPUs (that are capable of it) remain supported in MSFS. It is very unclear what is being used for FSR FG on NVIDIA GPUs in the current version 1.8.5.0.
My understanding here is that this is still using FSR for AA but without any upscaling happening. So it’s still AMD’s machine learning/AI based AA method, just applied to native resolution frames internally rather than downscaled. Battlefield 6 has a similar native FSR AA setting that I use since the card is more than powerful enough to run that game maxed out. This AA does look better than TAA to me in both games.
For reference, here’s with “Secondary Scaling” at 1.5, FSR 4.1 AA enabled:

Plus all sorts of funky additional ghosting around the edge of the window, UI elements, etc. - no good at all. Didn’t even bother to check if it actually fixed the blurring issue with glass cockpits because it’s totally unusable otherwise.
And with Secondary Scaling at default value of 1:
Given the blurring on FSR 4.1 AA, I just have to stick with TAA for the time being.
(And as a bonus, actually gain a few frames going from FSR 4.1 AA to TAA)
For me, it shows up as inactive in Adrenalin (9060xt).
FSR is enabled in both the game and Adrenalin.

Try turning off frame gen and enable 4.1 upscaling in the sim. Turn on the upscaling upgrade option in Adrenalin. If the 4.1 upscaling doesn’t active in the sim, toggle the sims screen resolution to another setting and back to your original setting.
This workaround helped me to get at least the 4.1 upscaling to work on my 9070xt.
Actually, it runs fine. I had turned on secondary scaling at 2. That crashed FPS. Back to 1 and excellent.
I’m having a really tough time getting my settings right - I need some expert AMD users advice. I’m running a 9070xt. CPU bottleneck so I need to run frame gen. I’ve got it setup so I get 60 fps in TAA with mostly high settings. It’s smooth and crisp. I force vsync on in adrenaline and have the in game setting set to half refresh rate. I set my monitor at 60 hz and cap frames in the sim at 30 fps. I don’t use freesync
I really want to use FSR 4.1 but my settings aren’t right. The screens are very wavy, like you’re looking at a swimming pool. I activated I activated upscaling in adrenaline and disabled frame gen. I just used the in game frame gen. Any tips?
Same GPU here. What I do in SU6 beta is:
Set monitor to 60 hz in Monitor settings
Adrenalin (global + MSFS specific settings)
both FSR FG + Upscaling on
Vsync to off if not enabled by Applikation
MSFS settings:
anti aliasing to FSR native AA
Frame Generation to FSR
Vsync on to refresh rate
This way it works super super smooth. Never had a better experience but even when I change one single of those settings I get bad picture Like you described.
If your monitor supports G-Sync or FreeSync, enable it in the OSD and—for FreeSync—in Adrenalin.
Have you tried setting the screen refresh rate to 60Hz in Windows settings?
Have you tried testing the VRR setting in Adrenalin (if your monitor supports VRR)?
FreeSync works great on most panels but on some panels such as VA ones it flickers and is distracting. And in addition to that you have to be within a certain hardware specified framerate range. Your monitor may have the ability to compensate for this if you fall out of the range but that in itself may not be ideal. Turning Freesync on is a user specific situation in my opinion. I do not recommend turning it on unless certain hardware requirements are met.
In my case i turned it off because i cant stand the flicker inherent in VA panels even though my monitor is a Fresync Premium certified monitor.
Sometimes a properly set up Vsync application is the better option.
Yeahh I bought a freesync TV because I thought this would work well but I never managed to get stable framepacing therefore constanr brightness flickering. That’s why I have to use vsync. It’s the only option that avoids tearing for me
Hey, so it actually affects the whole screen, which is a common misconception. Your native screen is 2K widescreen, so what you wind up with is 4k widescreen, which is a lot of real estate. Your graphics queue is getting pummeled with it at 2. I haven’t really looked at this in quite a while, but I also only ever used it in conjunction with DLSS, so I don’t know if that makes a difference. But as mentioned, you could also try it at 1.5, 1.2, to see if makes the ghosting tolerable enough for you.
Even 1.5 was really bad - and honestly, as shown at the end, FSR 4.1 is actually worse on frames even at 1.0 when compared to TAA so even if the blurriness was 100% gone I’d still stick with TAA.
should really not mess around with secondaryscaling at all.
Seems to entirely defeat the purpose of any upscaling.
Well as I said I’ve only ever used it in the context of DLSS, so I have no idea what to expect with FSR and secondary scaling.
