FSR M500, worth it in 2024?

Now that the FSR M500 has been out for a bit, I am sure there have been a few quality of life updates to the product, I am considering picking it up. I still fly the Asobo TBM930, and I have not heard anything on the SimWorks Studios TBM960. I was wondering if this product is worth the price now, especially with MSFS 2024 on the near horizon?

It’s a decent AC at a decent price.

Maybe have a look at the Black Square TBM 850 or the SimWorksStudio PC12 before making a final decision though?

There stands a chance that some great features expected in the B60 Duke will find their way into the TBM 850 and a ā€˜wear and tear’ addon for the PC12 is also expected (not sure exactly when though)

It, and the A2A Comanche, are the only two aircraft I ā€œflyā€ā€¦ It’s as good as it gets visually… the system depth is astounding… but most important… the flight model is accurate, to the point where you can fly it ā€œby the numbersā€ā€¦ and the turbo-prop engine simulation, is the best out there…

The developer has suggested that the transition to MSFS2024, will be seamless…

Totally worth it.
One of the, if not the best in its category

It was worth it in 2023, nothing’s changed since then. If you like high performance passenger turboprops, the FSR is a must.

Without hesitation, absolutely

My favorite plane in the sim.

I wonder if all devs. will see it that way. I hope so.

I agree with everyone else here. It’s a really great aircraft that’s going to get better. The developer is planning on expanding the simulation and systems depth even further. And speaking of the developer, he’s very responsive on these forums and an incredibly nice guy. I can absolutely recommend the FSR500.

I am still on the fence between the M500, the TBM 850 and the PC-12. All by great developers.

If the glass cockpit is no hindrance it’s absolutely worth it. Hell, even I like it!

Having said that: if you don’t have the TBM 850 yet I would strongly recommend getting it first. It simply has more character and is more fun and engaging to operate than the M500. Well, for me that is. Your milage may vary.

What’s your concern regarding MSFS 2024? as an exclusive Market Place distributor all my customers will benefit from Microsoft plans to automatically transfer ownership towards MSFS 2024 (in accordance with their statement), neither I am planning to charge for updates (never have done) if they are required.

Therefore you have nothing to worry about your investment for the future…

Thanks for the reply, I have since purchased your M500 (clearly not a Piper M500 cough cough).

In all honesty I am surprised that Piper did not actually work with you on making it an officially licensed Piper Product, as it’s that well done.

I have seen some differences in the start up procedures regarding turning on the generators first vs the alternator first, with the difference being turning on the alternator first to check if the battery is starting to go bad or not.

Another difference being some pilots tend to put the condition lever at half, as full run is for use in freezing temps.

Yet another difference being some pilots set the condition lever to full at 13% NG, others wait for the NG to stabilize at 16% NG where in the sim, this seems to be where the NG ā€œcaps outā€ or completely stabilizes.

Newer versions of the aircraft have now a simplified condition lever that is only OPEN or CLOSED. regarding NG, NG 13% is the minimum to start to avoid a hot start condition, you can get higher NG values depending on various factors, from external wind to ambient and atmospheric conditions… these will be simulated of course in MSFS.

the reason some pilots wait for NG 16% is to drop the ITT temperature further, remember the older a PT6 is, the hotter it runs since performance drop, most of the videos you will find online will be airplanes with TBO over 1000 hours and accordingly things shift from POH, etc. be also careful with videos that are related to the big brother M600 which of course has a different engine arrangement.

Be aware that running the starter for too long put you at risk of overheating the starter components which can make it BURN OUT damaging it and breaking the starter and the generator with it, ideally you should always start your engine as soon as NG has reached 13% in order to minimize the risk of damaging your starter.
