Hey so I got SLC and Pacx, but to run both, it requires FSUIPC7, but when I download it and scan it, my AV and windows defender says that there is a virus detected in it. just want to know if it is a false positive and I can install, or if I should avoid it altogether. Thanks
I haven’t had any problems so far and have been using the release version for 2 days. In fact I get full range out of my throttles now…
In a word, yes
FSUIPC (and all it’s different version) have been used with previous FS versions for decades.
does anyone get any FPS issues or temp freezing with it?
alright then should the Beta version do fine then?
Been running it 2 weeks with pilot2atc. Zero issues
Where did you download it from?
Sim market has the beta for free and that’s all you need.
We have had a couple of false positive reports from virus scanners with the FSUIPC7 download. However, this seems to be mainly from Malwarebytes - I have not seen such a report from Windows defender.
John
I never get why these people don’t get their software trusted. I mean, FSUIPC is a well known flightsim tool but you never can be 100% sure it’s really safe.
I understand that the program sort of has to be recognized as malware as it basically does similar things like keyloggers and such. But still.
Edit: I’m talking Windows security / Smart Screen and not some questionable third-party AV software.
FSUIPC has been the cornerstone on the Sim world for many, many years, if the Dev’s were indeed malicious - they hide it very very well!!
I downloaded it from simflight.com and also scanned the file from Pete’s official website (file scan from his official website also came back with a virus using Virustotal to scan it)
Not really. They just have you circumventing all the security settings. This way, they could easily mine bitcoins on my machine or whatever without anyone noticing.
Hmm interesting. Also Norton said the same thing
Again, the behavior of software, that hooks up with other software and logs system events and things like that, is normally recognized as security thread - no surprises here.
Thing is, there are ways to avoid that and offering some trust.
It’s just normal for so many people to click “just shut off all my system’s security” because they desperately want the features provided.
It’s shady on a large scale after all. Why should I trust some foreign person from the internet just because she/he promises to offer some convenience to my personal situation?
“I want to believe”
I dont even know how to answer this (i probably shouldnt FTT).
Let me try to tackle it logically. The question was “IS it safe?”. To that, are you saying that FSUIPC has a bitcoin mining backdoor, or that it could?
Because if it is the first, you better have proof; and if it is the second - thats an answer to a question nobody asked, and even then the same could be said about ANY AND ALL software you have ever downloaded.
You can never be safe with software that wants you to turn off your computer’s security. Period.
I’m not discouraging anyone from using FSUIPC. It’s more of a general understanding of IT security. Also period.
So I can use FSUIPC since it’s so widely used but this is a rare exception and I shouldn’t do this with most other software. Got it
What virus was reported? It may be a false positive, or it could be detecting some form of adware, rather than a malicious virus. I’ve seen things like that, where one distributed has added a wrapper around the installer for some else’s software, and tried to install the Bing toolbar, or similar. More a case of PUA (Potentially Unwanted Application) than something destructive.
Yes, it is safe - but don’t take my word for it - go to their support forums and even without looking myself, you will not find any of the zillion people participating in many many years ever claiming that FSUIPC stole their candy.
OH ONE THING: Like any other software, make sure you download it directly from their website. FSUIPC is often re-posted, re-hostef download elsewhere; i would not touch those with a 10m stick.
