Everything on the 525 works great for me except the glideslope and I have no clue why
You figure out how you want to mount it and I can help you out with assembly/soldering stuff. Wonât take long at all
Thank you. I will test it out in a little while. I want to compare the lua file to the one I have and see if there is something different
Thank you for the generous offer. I will figure out what I want to do in the next couple of days.
Just to be clear the printed Knobster mounting holes do not match the purchased knobster or the mounting bracket. I had to drill 2 new holes
Thatâs good to know about the holes not lining up. My initial idea to shaft mount it through the panel instead seems to make much more sense. Would the hole for the USB cable (once the grommet is removed) fit the shaft, or would it require drilling a new hole. Either way, Iâm fine with though.
If your using a propwash encoder the whole thing would go thru the hole. You made need some kind of filler. I do like the idea of just mounting it on the back and only having the knob on the front. I plan on mounting 1 or both of my screens on a panel with a RSG Stack in the middle with the Knobster there too
Thank you for the info. I plan on using that hole, but if itâs too big, I can always drill a fresh one the right size. Either way wonât really be an issue.
If itâs allowed, I may post a request on this board for someone to make one for me. If the parts cost $25 and I pay for labor (the knobster goes for $125), maybe someone will bite. I really have no confidence in making it myself.
I just downloaded the 2 iPad g1000 apps for practice along with reading the operatorâs manual. I only have one iPad mini but itâs good enough to get a feel for the controls offline. I can see where fiddling with the knob controls while flying may be a nuisance. And the way it is implemented by simionic (iPad app maker) isnât horrible. I havenât tried it in FS 2020 yet.
The Simionic app is only really useful if you have both the PFD and MFD, so it requires 2 iPads. It doesnât interface with the simâs Garmin at all. Itâ takes its place. What you see on the Simionic screen and your in-sim virtual cockpit will be 2 different things. All the mapping and AP functions that matter are in the MFD. You can use the PFD as display and for the AP keys, but the flight plan and all that other stuff require the MFD as well. And the MFD on its own doesnât work unless you also have the PFD.
And thereâs only support for a limited number of different planes, with over half of them being locked and required to pay to unlock. Synthetic vision also is a paid add-on if you care about it.
Knobster will not work with either of them. Knobster is made to work with Air Manager. If you want to make a rotary encoder that works at the sim level or with another device, Knobster wonât do it in the form weâre using it here.
Sorry, I didnât mean to confuse the situation. I know knobster works on the PC and the iPad solution is standalone. I just bought it so I can practice the command sequences while reading the training material. The iPad app has functionality even if not connected to a simulator. I know using it with a simulator is limited as well.
Cool. I just wanted to make sure you werenât getting things confused here.
I have the apps as well but only one iPad. Itâs a really great app. Both of them are actually. If you have 2 iPads and fly one of the supported planes theyâre actually really good. You can also get the bezels for them and they become a really fully featured, self contained G1000 suite.
I have bugfix for the Nav decimal frequency coming tomorrow night. Presently both decimal rotations produce a change of the same direction. You will only need the Logic.lua file for this fix.
I have been prototyping an idea to use on-screen finger taps instead of trying to spin around the onscreen ring⊠Iâve got some more work to do but the basics work. This might work for those who hate circling the ring and have no knobster.
The way simionic does it on the ipad app isnât too bad. There are two â-â and â+â marks to the left and right of the encoder, with the top set moving the outer knob and the lower set the inner knob.
When do you think your enhancement will be ready to test?
Yes that is the way I have been thinking to do it as well. I have not seen the simionic setup, can you send me a pic of an encoder setup if you have one?
Phil
Sent you a screenshot via PM
Thanks. I was just about to send it.

HellBrewer beat me to it. When do you think you will have an alpha or beta version ready? Iâve been asking around to pay someone to build me a knobster but no takers yet. I may post here in a little while. Thanks for your dedication to this project.
