So I received my Wimaxit monitor. The setup is pretty good now. However, a question to those of you who own it.
It’s my understanding that by using the bottom USB-C port, it should be able to power, use touch, and transfer video. After all, there’s an option in the menu on the monitor to use USB-C as the output. But for the life of me, I can’t get this to work. I can only get video to display using HDMI. I’ve got 2 USB-C ports available, one on my motherboard (tried this first) and one on my RTX2080. No luck getting it to work with either. Any ideas?
You need a type C USB 3.1 gen2 10Gb/s port on your PC to use that feature according to the description. And I don’t think they really mention the PC with that feature, mainly certain cellphones.
Thanks for the info. The documentation with the monitor is pretty much non-existent, and there’s nothing about that on the Amazon listing I bought it from. Good to know though.
It’s odd, as that’s what I should have on my motherboard according to the specs…
I’ll have to dig into my BIOS and see if there’s something there that needs to be switched on.
Will also try on my laptop later that has Thunderbolt 3 ports and see if it works there. If it does, then I’ll look into getting a suitable expansion card for my computer. For the the time being, this will work out well enough with HDMI.
The bottom USB-C port (Bottom right) (from my experimentation) is power only. I have mine plugged into the USB-C port on my 2080Ti
The port above the power port is all I needed to connect to get the monitor to power up and provide Video and touch support.
However I have to return mine as it is defective, The USB-C Connector does not lock most cables in place and it disconnects easily. Also the Touch Controller fails to connect and squeezing near the port gets is to work again. Hopefully your experience is better. I love it and will be replacing it though.
I’ve tried single cable with my 2080 to both ports. No display. Very strange. Although that said, it could be a quirk of something on my end, because my main monitor also has USB-C and it doesn’t work with my system either - neither with onboard USB nor the 2080. But it works with the Thunderbolt3 port on my laptop. In any case, I don’t mind the setup as it is now.
And both my USB-C ports hold the cables in nice and firmly, so I guess you got one that was defective.
Did you put together your knobster yet to mount on the stay level stand? I wouldn’t worry about the one cable thing. It sounds like something temperamental. I’d more be worried about a defective monitor like XAxSys mentioned (mainly because my current plan is to buy two of them.)
I haven’t received my encoder yet. It landed in Montreal and cleared customs on Friday. Tracking data hasn’t shown any movement as of yet. Expected delivery day is Friday, it seems. Although that sounds pretty ridiculous, as typically packages from Montreal to my location is an overnight thing. I can literally drive there in just over 2 hours. But it is what it is, I guess. I’ll have to deal with the setup as-is without a Knobster for now.
As long as buttons and sliders work smoothly. Knobster seems the only way to go for the knobs. I know you said it is the angle but it looks like it is hard to see the screen over your yoke and touch panel. My main monitor is low so I am worried about that. But I am putting the touchscreen at table level and not propped up by a yoke.
Now this is much better than trying to have this whole instrument layout on an iPad. I still have the iPad in my setup, of course. It has my GNS530 on the side.
