As we all know we have to exit the game to add mods to the Community folder.
I am just curious - what is the technical reason that does not allow us to add stuff to Community WHILE the game is running?
My idea:
End any flight you are doing to get back to the Menu screen - leave this running
Add the mod files to Community
Come back to the Menu and hit a button called “Refresh Community” or something like that. This would tell the game to rescan the Community Folder.
A progress bar shows the folder being scanned. A pop up then appears “10 new files detected and added to the database”
This would remove the need for us to keep exiting/restarting the game when modding. I am not demanding this feature or anything like that
I am just curious on a technical level why this is not possible. Thank you
Isn‘t there a function in the developer mode menu that does exactly that? Reloading the project without the need to restart the sim? When I was changing viewpoint positions I did exactly that but granted, that was early 2021
Why is that? Could you give technical details? Im trying to understand.
For scenery I can see it being tricky but what about airplanes. Just add another plane to the Community, go into the airplane menu and the new plane shows up.
Or perhaps Asobo could add an option where the game re-scans the community folder when you enter the hangar. It would make it a lot easier for third party developers, they’d be able to quickly check their add-ons on the fly.
This is a great idea. I enjoy MSFS and XP11 - in the latter you CAN add airplanes (not scenery) while the game is running. I can see scenery would be problematic but not airplanes & other non-scenery. If MSFS had this we could rapidly test planes, isolate problems etc. without constant reloads.
I was wanting to do this but sensed not many will be interested (this thread for example didn’t get many comments) so I didn’t but I will give it some thought, thanks for the encouraging reply
