I’m a dcs player so I like the clickpits. The g1000 is an anathema to me. Part of the draw of flight simulation to me is to explore how aviation has changed and explore the challenges inherent with different types and eras of aircraft. The g1000 is very useful for IFR etc. I’m about 30 hours into the game and I still don’t have a great sense of how to program it due to the menu levels lack of guidance on where certain functions are. I set autopilot and that’s about it. Creating waypoints or selecting beacons … not really.
The attitude seems to have been … yo dog we heard you like flight simulators so we made you a flight simulator with a simulator within a simulator…but no instructions don’t crash trying to use it. (Chorus of evil laughter heard in background.)
The great bebefit as I see it to traditional cockpits especially as trainers… is that functionality isn’t effectively hidden behind a series of button pushes. I can map an auto pilot switch or a nav radio frequency increase to a key but how do you do that on a menu based system?
I bought the waco when it came out and gave not touched anything else since. At a very basic level I want to fly the aircraft. I don’t want to fly a screen.
