G1000 Question?

I’m flying mostly the Baron and Cessna 172. It seems the G1000 only works about 50% of the time. After setting up departing and landing airports, I take off, fly to about 1500 - 2000 feet, click Autopilot and then NAV, then set my rate of climb. It only works about half of the time… am I missing a step or two here? Thanks…

There are known bugs with the G1000/3000 which you can find in the forum. However, there may be a few things to check with your setup.

  1. You need to ensure your autopilot and FD are set to follow the FMS path. For example on the C172 PFD, check that your CDI is set to FMS. You should see a magenta line in your PFD for this. That could be the reason the aircraft is not following your route.

  2. Don’t make the AP work harder than necessary to intercept and fly your route. Either hand-fly or use HDG mode to put the aircraft on a shallow intercept course. You don’t want to be 90 degrees off your desired route path when you mash the AP and NAV button.

Hope this helps!

Thanks much… I will check those items…!

I think CDI mode was not set correctly, I set it to GPS and it follows fine now. Thanks again
