I think I’ve been lucky. I’ve not had a single crash since WU6 was released, or the hotfix. Inevitably it’s only a matter of time, and for me at least they would be really random. I keep a pretty lean build as far as the sim is concerned. I never went in for hundreds of liveries, and stuck to a few of the “essentials” addons, like GPS mods, others to make planes better such as the C208-mod, and also use an addon linker, but have a pretty stable set of addons that I don’t tinker with much most of the time.
My gut feeling is that in some cases there is a general reluctance to admit that there is something about the individuals setup that is triggering this. If there were general problems with the sim, fundamental issues, then I would have them too. I know I can trigger them if I install the right combination of addons, and fly the right plane, and so I avoid that combination, and I remain unaffected.
If a conversation starts with “I shouldn’t have to do this”, or “I want to fly, not become an IT professional”, then the battle has been lost before it even started. Cut everything away, no addons whatsoever, establish a baseline of stability, and then build on that.
I’ve lost count of the number of threads I’ve seen where the process starts of with something like “The sim is broken, and I want my money back”, which as the person is engaged with, and a logical fault finding procedure is followed, it inevitably turns out to be a conflicting scenery addon, or livery pack, and the like. A common one is “the planes are broken” turning out to be using the Legacy flight model, instead of Modern.
