Before the update of the sim came and I could update the game, this gaming service error appeared.Read a lot about it, BUT found NOWHERE an answer!!
So please all the experts here:What can I do ?
Have you seen this before?
I did all that.Rest the gaming service, uninstall and reinstall .Log in and out of all accounts.Nothing helped. When I click to start the sim, the above showed window
pops up.
By th way my installed version of the Gaming service is: 8.71.12001.0

My last attempt to help you. Go to the Asset Management search for Gaming Servicies. This process must not have more than one process open at a time. For example, if you see something like this (2) you do terminate activity. Try again at the limit restart your PC.
Mille gracie, but it did not help.

I did everything again, now it is working.
I have no clue, what was causing the problem.

Since a few days I have this problem in continuous loop. I first uninstall the “gaming service” and reinstall it - but improves nothing. I uninstall MSFS and reinstall. Then it works exactly 1 x. At the next start I end up again in the MS Store instead of the Sim. Really very annoying, especially because you don’t know why this happens at all and because large downloads are necessary every time…
Can anyone help?
As I had the issue frequently in the early days and not since a year at least - without knowing why it did improve - I saved the following description of a solution that worked everytime for me:
- Open your Registry Editor
- go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE section,
- then to SYSTEM
- then to Current Control Set
- then to Services.
In that bit you will find two things - Gaming Services and Gaming Services.Net - delete both of those two things completely and then restart your pooter. Reinstall Gaming Services from MS Store. Sorted.
Alternative if you are reluctant to meddle with the registry:
- In the Windows search bar, type Windows PowerShell
- In the menu, select “Run as administrator.”
- In the Administrator: Windows PowerShell screen, type the following command and press Enter:
get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers
I was then able to reinstall Gaming Services from MS Store.
(copied this as part of the procedure as well but never had to use it as the above already did the trick, but anyway:)
In the same window, type the following command and press Enter:
start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN
Click Get to install Gaming Services (select Yes if you receive the User Account Control (UAC) prompt)
Restart your device, and try to install or update Microsoft Flight Simulator again.
thank you very much for the detailed description. I did it that way and now it seems to run again! I hope it stays like this! Thanks again!
Hi there, I have the same problem. When starting the flight simulator an app store windows of the gaming services is starting instead. This is not the first time that I have this issue. Reinstalling the services with powershell in admin mode as described in some threads did not work (this time). The gaming repair tool that I found on the microsoft home page did not work either. The Last time I could start MSFS was by the time of the last world update. I think I have this problem like 90% of the time. Any suggestions?
I have this problem since 2021. Refuses to update for no reason this, refuses to update for now reasons that, refuses to download for no reasons this, refuses download or install for no reaons that.
Refuses to launch because of online-DRM-crap this, refuses to launch because of DRM or login-problems that, refused to update gaming-services-whatot this, cannot launch because gaming services must be updated blah blah blah blah blah, and XBox services must be updated (but XBox service update failed with error e43545645647-whatever-code for the 500st time and no internet solution helped… BAAAAAAH!!!)
This went on since 2021, until I almost become completely insane and thought about also giving up on computers completely to live in the woods with a loincloth and a dull spear and hunt honey badgers for food…
I had given up completely on the sim, but in 2022 the Fenix Airbus released which rekindled the old enthusiasm for aviation IMMEDIATELY and for the Fenix I even bought the sim on Steam for the Fenix ![]()
And buying the sim on Steam immediately solved all imaginable hassle and eternal problems and launch-problems and all other imaginable DRM-hassle.
Simply buy the sim on DRM-free Steam!
Steam ----> all problems solved, since 2022. ![]()
I assume that by “described in some threads” the procedure(s) I described in THIS thread are included? If so, the only further suggestion I would have is to reinstall Windows (with keeping your apps). I had to do it once as Windows Update decided to quit. I did a so-called “in place update”, which basically repairs your OS without altering any of your installed programs.
