Getting dinged for flying through a cloud even though I'm not (career mode)

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:

I’ll get a message saying “aircraft entered cloud” in career mode even though I’m not in a cloud. There are clouds present but in nowhere near them.

Did you experience this issue before you joined the Beta?
Yes but it seems to be worse now.

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?
Yes and yes.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

Difficult to answer. It happens where clouds are present, but not always.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. loaded a career mission
  2. clouds are present but not flying through them. (maybe the threshold for entering a cloud is too?)

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

What peripherals are you using, if relevant:
N/A

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?
No

[PC Only] Many issues may be due to an outdated graphics card. Please state your Graphics Card Driver Manufacturer (NVIDIA, Intel, AMD) and Version:
Nvidia 576.52

[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?

Oh no, are they finding ever more ways to ding us. This is one I did not know about.

I use Active Sky a lot. On its debug page it has a readout showing whether you see in cloud or not, and what kind of turbulence you are experiencing.

You can be in very thin, wispy cloud, and it will pick up on that. It’s possible to have flown through the edge of a formation like that and not even notice it.

Either way it needs fixing otherwise were left with all the nonsense we experience with taxiway dings just after landing when we have not even tried to enter a taxiway. It needs fixing now otherwise we all get performance deductions until SU4 downloads. I wonder whether this was an IFR flight or a VFR flight.

I don’t know if it can detect the degree to which you are in cloud. If you are on a VFR flight, and you enter heavy cloud that makes sense. But if you passed through the wispy edges of a cloud, and still have a clear view of the horizon, and the ground near you, you probably shouldn’t.

Agreed 100%. I hope they notice this even if it gets low votes to please fix.

I’m afraid not, you have to keep a certain distance away as well.

So for simplicity’s sake due to differing regulations around the world, let’s say you need to stay at least 1NM horizontally and 1,000 feet vertically away from cloud formations at all times.

No cloudsurfing allowed! lol

In real life, sure. But what else does the sim do that doesn’t follow real life? This is a ■■■■ in a hurricane. I’ve seen Active sky report I’m in cloud briefly, and it’s so thin I barely even saw it. The only way I spotted it was looking directly down at the ground for a few seconds to observe the changes, it was that thin. I couldn’t see it in front of me.

I agree, this is not real life. It is seemingly another opportunity to deter people from flying with weather on in career mode. Who can actually see what 1000m looks like in reality, or 2000m before you get a ding for being 1 or 2 m inside whatever boundary they use to detect you. This is the same nonsense that does not work for runway boundaries. We all get performance reductions because they cannot get this punishment garbage right. As you can see I feel rather annoyed at this happening all the time. I dread the added performance dings and will fly with weather off.

• Yes

• Threshold for what is considered being in a cloud is way to sensitive. Maybe there should be 2 or 3 stage warning system before getting a penalty.

I would just call it clear of clouds for VFR flight.
Makes things simple. A ton of the missions are in class G airspace anyway. The game obviously knows how deep in a cloud you are if it can change the visibility. They just need to change the boundary. Honestly I’d make the game approachable and make the boundary far in the cloud. One more thing, the same goes for fire fighting missions and the smoke plume. In order to reach the drop point I have to fly through the plume. This needs tweaking for sure.
