Gliders

So far, I’m really enjoying the gliders. Wonderful to be able to fly sailplanes in-game from VanSant Airport (9N1), the field where I learned to fly and kept my Schweizer 1-26 back in the day.

The only thing missing is I haven’t detected any downwash from the tow plane or found a proper thermal that makes it’s presence felt by raising my wing and pushing me away.

Do you still fly there? I’ve got a college buddy that’s got a Cub out there - either at VanSant, or flies in there quite a bit.

Also - why can’t you fly from VanSant - it’s in the game and you can launch from a tow plane there?

I have but it’s pretty rare in the sim … thermals definitely need more work.

Sorry if I wasn’t clear. I do fly gliders in-game from VanSant.

Moved to another state so no real-life flying there anymore.

Hello,

you all talking about thermals, ok but where on Earth as place? Here in Slovakia now is hard to find thermals in case outside temp is about 7 deg C. Try go to some warm places produced thermals in case of Real weather. The first in my head Australia, the best glider place of the world but really don’t know also what conditions are there now heh Try look for that best place on web where it is  Corowa??? heh really not sure if this is that name… That was maybe about 14 years ago that I hear about that, our friends were there…

In south-eastern Pennsylvania, where VanSant Airport is located, the soaring season is from March through October. Best conditions in the spring.

The beauty of a computer simulation is you can set the location, time of the year and weather to anything you want.

BTW, the ridge soaring training is set in Pennsylvania. The Appalachian Mountains range runs along the eastern coast of North America and is a premier location for ridge soaring with many world record free distance and out and return flights being flow on its ridges.

got it

it looks like a really nice area for flying and the airfield looks cool…
