Don’t unlink and as @ AppliedPython94 says don’t remove the cvt - just turn down the ships and ferries settings to 0, when you don’t want to see ships… I am travelling for business and busy with work so unfortunately no to chance for further assistance or testing for the moment.
In principle yes but the underlying AIS data is not free, but worse than that, ships are not just a few standard models like the Airbus family or Boeing family, rather you have hundred of thousands different models as ships are rarely built in very long series, add to that the sim engine is not built for moving ships in real time. But maybe we will get there in some form. But it is maybe worthwhile considering if you prefer to have some highly detailed models you can land on or just look at but not sailing in real time or have some standardized representative ships moving where there is a ship in real time.
Thanks for this mod. Apologies if these questions have been asked many times before.
I was wondering if it’s possible to just load in ships for a particular region rather than the whole world to reduce load times, i.e I mostly fly around the British coastline and inland so don’t need to have the data for the rest of the world for those flights, can I just load a British coastline dataset?
Secondly, what do you recommend as my settings for global ships in the sim? I know you say your mod appears at 5 percent, is that all I should put or will leaving at 100 percent give even better results with more ships? Or do I need to reduce to 5 percent to stop the mod clashing with the default in-game ships?
Finally, does this make any difference to harbours and inland riverways? I haven’t really seen any ships inland flying around my local area, nor have my harbors got any ships, is that because this mod is focused on sea borne ships and ferrries etc, rather than harbors and inland waterways?
Just wondering if this is a mod I should only load up if I’m going to be over the sea, and remove from my community folder if I’m flying over land to reduce load times?
Yes, all have been asked before but to summarise your questions:
Regions - not at the moment but the author is possibly looking at it for the longer term. Unless you want to try it yourself.
Settings - the higher the Global Ships setting the more sim-based you will see, as well as the mods traffic. It’s usually spread out but there apparently is a very occasional clash.
There are no visible ships from the mod in harbours and waterways, mainly due to a “problem” with the sim SDK and water levels. They may be there - but under water!
If you are not going to be flying over sea then don’t load it in the C/F - it will help with loading times. Otherwise reduce the sim ships to below 5% and they won’t appear (but will still be in the C/F).
One last thing, the mod adds a file into your C/F in which it creates the ship models. Better to leave this alone unless you are really strapped for room as it reloads itself every time you meet a ship it hasn’t got in the file.
I’ve currently taken both files out and plan to just put them in when I’m going to be flying over ocean, is that correct, or should I put one of the files back into the community folder for ship models, and if so which of the two is it?
Thank you Erik but I cannot experience your work, yet. Unzipped and moved folder GAIST_MSFS_V1 into Community Folder; appears in Uninstalled content and, upon clicking on it, message WAIT.
What did I miss?
Did you realize that this “not installed” issue is a bug, forums is full of it. So you have to do nothing but adding the GAIST_MSFS_V1 into your community folder, fire up the sim and set the boats to 5% for it to work. It will create an _CVT folder automatically, this is for the converted stuff, you do not have to take care about it at all.
To re-iterate, it says ‘uninstalled’ but it is actually installed. You install it by placing it in your Community folder and don’t need to do anything else except make sure your ship % is turned up to a reasonable number. You do not need to click on anything in Content Manager. In fact, you don’t even need to open it.
For the avoidance of doubt, the Content Manager saying 3rd party add-ons are ‘Uninstalled’ is a bug introduced in the latest update.
I suppose you went to visit Fort Boyard in WU4, as the replica of the Hermione was built in Rochefort and I learnt French in La Rochelle it was natural to let her sail in that area
I love the add-on, it is really awesome. I have only one problem with it. When online playing in a closed group with other players who have the mod, they do not see the same ships. It seems that the time of the group leader is not followed by group members. Is this something that can be looked at or it can only be done by Asobo?
@Severeeno I think that the ships in this mod are on scheduled routes and are at specific locations dependent upon game time. And if this is the case then you and your group would only see them in the same location if you were all on the same time of day in the sim.
You can test this by using the active pause above a ship and moving the time, once the sim has synched you will see it’s location has changed. It takes a few seconds to synch the data and you can watch it happen on LittleNavMap with AI ships enabled
