would you be willing to pay a monthly fee is MSFS offered a option for Google Maps if it offered improvements over the current Bing Maps?
game costs already a lot
Absolutly no.
It’s not even an option; Microsoft isn’t going to go to Google for map data when they already have their own Bing.
As its a hypothetical question, the answer is still no.
Note: Bing maps are superior in some ways to Google maps. Furthermore, Bing Maps have a no-fee option for not for profit use (Google does not, SFAIK). I used that option in my flight planner. If MSFS used the full capabilities of Bing maps I think most people would be satisfied. Please see my User’s Guide and YouTube video for clear examples of Bing Map’s capabilities.
very interesting I will check that out
Personally I wouldn’t. The bing maps are suitable for this use. I spend 90% of the time flying with only 10% looking at the pretty world. It’s perfectly sufficient for me so wouldn’t switch whether free or not.
I can’t wait until I figure out how to modify imagery like we could in X-plane. Bing is my least-favorite source. Too many ugly green areas in spots where I fly frequently. Look south and west of Chicago for example. Green roads? Come on…
Absolutely not…not that it matters, as it’s never going to happen.
Microsoft owns Bing so I doubt there will ever be an option for Google Maps.
Come on. Seriously? Be at least somwhat realistic. MS and Google are competitors. Bing Maps and Google Maps are competitors. Under no circumstances will this game ever work with Google Maps.
While Google Maps is somewhat unlikely… the companies that both services actually get their imagery from is always an option. I don’t think a change is as ridiculous as some of you are making this thread seem like.
this subject is always a hot potato and i don’t know why unless some people have stock with Bing Maps but as you know never say never just like they said we would never land on the moon then in 1969 there we where
I don’t understand your post at all… Also, we landed on the moon?
My point was that companies like Digital Globe/Maxar actually collect the imagery that feeds Bing or Google Maps or whoever. They are not a competitor in the sense of Microsoft vs Google, so in theory it would be possible to purchase the imagery directly from them.
I really don’t think you understand what your getting
For 60$, 1 time fee, you get the entire world with HD quality and 3D buildings by satellite data. A vast variety of aircraft for any type of avgeek, and you don’t even need the best PC to play with high settings.
In my opinion, I would be willing to pay a monthly fee for Google Earth imagery, but I really don’t see it coming any time in the next few years. It’s way to expensive even with a monthly subscription
Google maps is not that good, it’s not like landing on the moon compared to not landing on the moon lol.
They provided us with this great sim, it isn’t just Bing maps with planes in it. It’s not that simples as “just move over to google maps”. It’s just a small part of terrain generation. They did a lot of work to accomplish this and create the world. And now it’s not good enough and they should “move to Google”. Very disrespectful towards the devs after they put in years of work.
true words!!!
Respectfully, the devs don’t really deserve much respect at this point. Maybe once they deliver a working product…
Again, the solution is to go to the source… someone who actually supplies commercial imagery, rather than another service that compiles commercial imagery.
I am very satified with the scenery and weather at its current state but flight simulation if the scenery was just as good as looking out of a real airplane a small fee of $10 a month it would be very tempting to me but not more then $10 a month, anyway this is just a interesting subject for people
