Got Friends Taylorcraft BC-12D Discussion

Starting a dedicated thread to discuss the wonderful Taylorcraft so we don’t clog up Got Friends’ Development Hangar thread.

As a continuation of that thread then, some of us think it is too quiet.

What do you mean too quiet?

I mean not loud enough.

I love the feeling of the plane. It’s also very nice to look at. I wasn’t expecting the plane to be capable of such short take off.
The only problem I have is, since I play in VR and have no tool-tips and legacy clicking mode, the inability to know engine health and oil quantity. I’ve seen videos where people hover over the oil dipstick and I can’t do that. And Weather start conditions not remaining enabled for each flight.

I did expect fuel state saving and I’m disappointed that this is not the case. I always assume this basic functionality that really makes me feel that I fly the same plane all the time I take her for a spin. I’m baffled that most of the developers ignore this.

Engine works great though. It really responds to mixture / carb heat / altitude.

I’ll be flying (slowly) this plane a lot!

Low and slow beats high and fast every time!

Low and fast is even better, really.

I don’t think they exist.

Hi Pilots,

This post will not be original, 'cause I’ve been reading a lot of similar feedbacks than mines.

I LOVE this plane. Estheticaly, its exactly what i was hoping. Its… beautiful. Really. Bt i was waiting for much more state saving, fuel, instruments, finding again the plane in the exact state you left it.

Engine sound is amazing, i would like it louder ^^ Instruments needles are not moving as much for a kind of plane like this, i don’t know if it could be better in the future, maybe an update from Got Friends, i know the team is very close to the simmers feedbacks, so… let’s hope for it.
“Low and Slow”, yes. Perfect for calm and contemplative VFR flight.
I know i’m gonna spend a lot of time flying the Taylorcraft.

Good idea this thread.
Jim

Correct, as they don’t exist IRL. Seems like GF is hearing the community’s concern though and is looking into an appropriate/“tasteful” way to incorporate some interior lighting. I believe I heard some talk of a lantern

fantastic model! thoroughly enjoying. one submission though, to the devs - i believe the differential braking isnt functioning as of now, surely can be implemented. cheers

Differential braking does work. What you’re probably noticing is that the tail wheel only has a limited turning angle. If you want to make a sharp turn on the ground, apply some more throttle, push the stick forward to unload the tail wheel, and you’ll be making sharp corners.

Definitely feel the same about state saving, it’s the one thing I find sorely missing here. I appreciate that this is only $25 though, whereas the addons I have with full state saving were notably more expensive, so I’m not mad about it. Just wish it was there all the same.

That aside, this is an easy contender for my top 5 FS2024 addons of all time, at least top 10. I look forward to many more flights! Currently lake hopping across eastern Quebec.

State saving can be inconsistent sometimes, at least in my experience. I don’t really mind that it’s not present here, but I can see why people might want it or expect it, given the complexities this addon does have programmed in.

Really responsive to flight controls - very nice.
Lovely little rattle going on there with exterior sounds as expected but interior engine sounds quite quiet.

It’s a lot of fun to fly and I’m really enjoying it, but I definitely agree the sounds should be louder!

I was also quite surprised by the low landing speed for a bush plane from this era with no flaps. If you don’t set the trim correctly, it can be very difficult to slow down even with a full forward slip. I was touching down at much less than 40 MPH. The plane floats like an ultra light sport plane. Setting the trim down allowed me to touchdown between 40-45 MPH similar to the CAS J3 Cub. The flight model feels like a blend of the Vixen and Norden, while I was anticipating something more like the C170B. This all may be correctly simulated so I’m not suggesting it’s wrong, just that I was surprised by it.

IMO, the water takeoffs and landings are some of the best in the sim.

Please check on the clipboard if the headphone function is enabled. If so, the soundvolume both inside as outside the plane is lower that without headphones.

It’s not enabled. When enabled, the sound is even lower. Several people feel like the sounds are too low.

No it’s not enabled.

Alright ill try that. Thanks. Btw one curiosity i have to put to the beta testers since they have obviously spent considerable time with the model already- in the manual it says the model offers to the needs of the casual ctrl + e player to serious simmers alike by means of complexities that the player may choose to dwelve into. Not these exact words but something to that effect. Could some beta tester kindly elaborate that please? Thanks
