Got Friends Taylorcraft BC-12D Discussion

I’m not one of them - sound level seems fine to me…

Not a beta tester myself, but having spent some time with it since launch I would assume the optional complexities being referred to are the Aircraft Simulation options found on the Systems page of the Craft Pad, and listed in detail on page 14 of the aircraft manual but summarized here:

  • Propeller Hand Starting
  • Realistic Drag Physics
  • Fuel Sloshing Physics
  • Prop and Latch Failures
  • Weather Start Conditions
  • Primer Simulation
  • Carb Heat Simulation

I only got in 2 quick circuits last night, but man this plane is a beauty! After soaking in the eye candy from every angle - and wow is it well done! - I spent most of my time happily going through the Craft Pad to make it just the way I want it. I thought the sounds were excellent, especially the startup and little creaks and stresses from the airframe. It really adds to that alive feeling you get along with the vibrations and physics going on with controls and surfaces throughout the cockpit. I thought the volume level was fine outside, but perhaps the engine was a tad quiet internally. Then again, I’ve never been in the real plane, and I imagine a 65 hp engine is only so loud. I did have headphone mode off.

As far as state saving goes, I’m not bothered by the fuel level not saving. It’s a simple fuel system with small capacity, and at the default 50% you still have some room left in the main tank so you can open it up to “manually” refill - I love that little detail btw! From there I just go with the main, or fill up the secondary as well if needed. That said, I do understand those that want this feature.

Now I certainly hope the Craft Pad settings and dirt and grime are persistent. That’s where, for me, it will feel like I’m strapping back into the same aircraft. Speaking of dirt and grime accumulation, is there a way to clean the aircraft once we get it nice and dirty? I didn’t see anything in the manual or the Craft Pad itself. Some aircraft (for example the A2A Comanche) have a “wash” button for just such occasions.

Also, as a super minor suggestion that shows how my brain works, it would be nice if clicking the reset button in the Craft Pad was accompanied by an audible “click” or similar sound just to reinforce that it is actually doing the reset.

I appreciate the study level fuzzy dice, myself…

I was only able to get one flight in with it last night, and that flight had a very nasty cross wind so the takeoff was a bit spicy lol. I agree, more volume from the engine would be nice. All of the little touches are amazing. I noticed even the right seat belts vibrated with the engine! Mixing the sounds with my haptics fom my transducers really brought me into the plane.
I think this plane has some of the absolute best looking gauges in the sim. they look sooo real. I only fly in VR, and this thing is going to be a very regular flyer for me.

Loving this thing. I was only able to do one flight in it, but man the instruments are the most realistic I have seen in a plane within the sim so far! And the right seat, seat belt vibrates with the engine as well. Something I did not expect to see lol I fly 100% of the time in VR, and this thing is going to be flown A LOT!

I just put the first hour on the Taylorcraft Classic. Catalina Island to Van Nuys, landing on One Six Right, naturally (watch the documentary of the same name, if you haven’t already! It’s great!). Awesome! The perfect low and slow flyer for photogrammetry cities.

Wish I could have a passenger avatar beside my pilot avatar instead of my co-pilot avatar in the BC-12D cockpit, other than that, loving that Taylorcraft, woo!

But then I remembered, I can have my Man’s Best Friend avatar set as the co-pilot avatar in MSFS!

Guys… I goofed up.

Just bought it but will have to wait until tomorrow to give it a try. I’m excited for a peaceful bush flight after a hard day’s work!

Ironically that amount of great physic&sound futures Incorporated in in this plane parallely with no deep system failures&ownership makes me feel it is halfmade and and somehow hit&miss.:confused:

This is one hell of an airplane. It’s so perfectly made. Forgot to turn on carb heat. Complacency because of not really modelled on default aircraft. Just in time I realized my mistake.
Wonderful little machine, but so slow that even if you are 1nm from the airport, you still have plenty of time to get configured. And it seems to float forever over the runway.

I was doing some research on landing this sucker since like cruise it does landings slowly lol. I learned that forward slips can be your best friend at bleeding speed off to get on the ground, and they are fun to do! Use the body of the aircraft as a speed break.

Cannot get enough of the Bush!!

Yes, I have had trouble getting it slowed down… tricky with no flaps.

No sound issues here, but I used this amazing feature on my speakers to get things just right…

If it’s not to your taste, note that you can go into the sim’s sound settings and increase Engine to 100 and reduce the other sounds to get the balance you want.

This plane is really something else. The flight modeling is really convincing, and the overall feel is as close to being in a small plane as you can get without motion nausea and the looming specter of possible death if you screw up.

Candidly, do you really think we don’t already know how to adjust our in game sound settings? The issue is with the sound profile. It’s too low. Normally, I have to keep my headset volume below 66% so that my ears don’t bleed. With this sound profile at 100%, it is passable, barely, but in Chase Plane fly by mode they are anemic.

It is far too low. And if you turn it up to the point where it sounds normal, when ATC pipes up it’s incredibly loud. The balance is just off.

Oh yeah, I turned down the voices when I was playing around with the balance.

@Gulf76GT70 Believe me, I work as a user interface writer, and you’d be shocked at how little people explore settings and how they read instructions onscreen even less. I know most users on these forums have probably poked around the settings, but if someone never bothered exploring “Sound” they might not have known there were individual settings for engine, voices, etc.

Enough folks feel the engine is too quiet that I image GF will address that in an update. I was just sharing a viable workaround in the meantime. @Saltash53 would probably want to turn down the voice levels to compensate for the engine sound volume increase, for instance, given the post directly above.

When I’ve flown in small planes, a headset was pretty much mandatory, so I’m not accustomed to roaring engine sounds. That’s why it didn’t bug me.

I’m beginning to think I’m the weirdo for thinking the sounds are at a perfectly fine volume…
