Got Friends Taylorcraft BC-12D Discussion

Engine too quiet or hearing loss ???

Okay I noticed something odd with the sounds. Maybe its related to the volume complaints, maybe not.

In walk around mode, standing in a general place where you’d pull the prop to start, so in front of the plane and slightly off set towards the right wing, engine sounds are crisp, clear, and a good volume.

If I move toward the left wing it gets significantly quieter, even if I never stop looking at the aircraft.

If I point the camera away, it gets whisper quiet.

I think maybe something’s off with the sound positioning, if that makes sense?

Overall, I’m loving this plane! I have two questions:

  1. Should the fuel stick thing be bouncing at all when we’re flying? It feels very static to me.
  2. Is there a way to enable instrument lighting for night flying?

If you’re flying straight and level, it won’t bob up and down as much as you’d think. It will definitely react to changes in direction though.

There is no instrument lighting, like the real thing. I think Got Friends might be working on that though.

I just landed, and my avatar fell through the floor of the plane. I got out, got back in, and now the fuel thing is bobbing as I expected. So random glitch?

What a fun plane though, I can’t wait to try the skis!

Maybe I was seeing a similar issue and I didn’t know it… I’ll have to fly it again and find out!

so far i am pretty much enjoying the TC. i just needed some inputs from anyone who might have dwelved deeper - so if i pull the carb heat all the way, theres an increment of 2-3 RPM. however, the oil temp and pressure keeps going on a rise. will these rising temp and pressure have some kind of effect on engine performance?

Hi,

Like the Taylorcraft a lot.

However I agree with others that the engine sounds are way too quiet. While I have never flown a T-craft IRL, I flew similar airplanes, like a Luscomb or a Cub and an Aeronca Champ. They were all much, much louder inside and outside.

Also noted that during slow flight, with the stall warning sounding, very little right rudder is required. Not so sure if the real one would behave like that.

Thirdly, I think that the routing of the control cables near the cockpit floor is not correct. Looks like that the cables are too close together and would probably fray against each other. But this is only an animation/texture issue.

It depends on many factors. If you are using carb heat correctly ie under the correct circumstances like wet or cold weather or descent, your RPM should go up as you melt the ice. Consequently, your engine oil will heat up through increased RPM but if it is within the normal temp range that is still all good.
If however you are exceeding that norm for a long period of time the oil will have many of its protective properties denatured.

So since there is not a clear explanation of your circumstances this is a generalisation.

My only issue is that the heat blur is way too much. The plane and cockpit are stunning.

Yes ofcourse thats how the temp and pressure are rising. But my question is will the in game plane have any effect upon them due to these peaking temps and pressure? If so, what are the effects

Ill leave that to Jonx

because i was wondering whether i need to even monitor the temps and pressure or can i just let it pass

Regarding the fuel float, you can see it bobs around when on the water, or I believe when taxiing. But it doesn’t move at all once in the air. I would have though that with sharp pulls of the yoke up and down should also cause it to bob up and down also. And aggressive pull backwards should force it downwards, for example. Similarly a sharp bank, and then pull, I would have though should have the same effect.

That’s strange it’s always bobbing up n down during flight for me. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it stay still except when on the ground not moving.

but it does for me. If you’re in 2024, double-check in your ‘my library’ page that you actually have the 2024 version enabled, not the 2020 version.

I confirmed I have the 2024 version streamed. I was in the float version. Zero activity on the float when in the air. I tried quite aggressive pulls as well. Works fine when on the water.

Just about to buy this one. One question, though. If I get it in 2024, is it an 2024 native version? If not, will I have to pay for a 2024 native upgrade? (I well get it anyway, just curious).

If you buy it from the Marketplace in MSFS2024, it will be the 2024 version.

Can I get rid of the Copilot without reducing his weight to zero?
