GPU CPU overclocking

Did anyone overclock cpu gpu and noticed much better performance?

yes, i did, and found 9700k stop use last core 100% after overclock, not every cpu need to be overclocked and for sure not for every games, only if one or more cores overloaded, actually i overclock overclocked, long time use 4.8 ghz for all cores and 4.5 for cache, with that situation i had 99% loaded one core, now i use 4.9 4.6 and last core(main thread) use 99% only for short peaks… so, you can watch your system loads and you will know, what to do

It’s going to vary considerably whether you’ll notice the improvements. And pushing an overclock too far can reduce performance even while stable.

My older CPU is significantly improved with overclocking, 3.7 to 4.5 ghz. But that overclock’s been in place since long before MSFS, so can’t say what it improves on MSFS, but I suspect it’s not insignificant given how CPU bound I am most times.

I don’t have an extreme overclock on the GPU, my 3080 (EVGA FTW3) does have a factory overclock and I’ve added even more, but it’s not huge.

I suspect I’m probably getting 5% faster FPS with my overclocks maybe?

But a non stable overclock is a mess, so trying to get that last 1% and getting crashing isn’t worth it as I see it.

I have to underclock my GPU instead. Because running it at factory clock settings gave me a few crash to reboot a couple times. underclocking by about -300 Mhz seems to stabilise the sim for me.

Hi, although I was getting good FPS on my system (40s to 60), and I’m not CPU bound given my system and settings, today I did a somewhat conservative overclock on my CPU (i9-10980XE). After doing it I did notice that 2 of the 18 cores in my CPU were running at close to the maximum of the newly increased speed, which was 4.7 GHz vs the 3.8 GHz that they were limited to before the overclock. I’m not sure that it increased the FPS since it’s hard to recreate exactly the conditions, but I believe it may have added a couple FPS. Not positive, however. I’m running an RTX3090 driving three 4K monitors (MSFS on the center one, Navigraph and misc on the other two adjacent), with everything set to High other than the glass instrument setting which is Medium. Given my system and the way it is set up, overclocking isn’t probably necessary, but it is entertaining to fiddle with it.
Overclocking the GPU would likely help in my case, since my GPU is operating at almost 100%. However, I haven’t tried that yet, and may not since things are running smoothly at this point.

My friend, RMA your card as soon as possible.

I can’t RMA a card that’s 2 years old. It’s passed the warranty period. Besides I stopped getting it after the USA update patch. And moving my hardware to a bigger more roomier case seems to help too.

I see! Glad that it was software problem other than hardware in your case. Usually it is faulty GPU if it crashes on stock clocks.

Regars.
