7900X3D
4070 Ti Super
2x32 DDR5 6400CL32 which I have clocked down to 6000CL30 for stability
MSFS2024 is installed on an NVMe drive
My CPU is adequately cooled with a 360 mm AIO
My GPU temps does not exceed 65 degrees C when flying
I have noticed that randomly, my latency on the GPU just skyrockets from about 20-25ms to upwards of 65-100ms. I average about 45-50 FPS on ground with scenery on the Fenix A320 and 50-60 FPS in the sky. When my latency skyrockets, I become GPU limited and my frames drop to the 10-15 range and it stays at it for a bit before recovering. It is not just with the Fenix A320 either. Even with the FBW A380X in cruise, the same thing happens even though I have plenty of VRAM.
I have no idea what’s causing this issue. I am not VRAM limited (it is in the yellow range and has about 2-2.5 GB of VRAM to spare) nor am I RAM limited. It very obviously isn’t my cooling as well - temperatures are not an issue.
I think a lot of people have experienced this but most people do not know what you have realised.
I have a high end system and a 4090 and this is happening to me too. What drew my attention to this was of course the tab displaying “limited by gpu”
The graphics card utilisation is very low about 26% on my system, same problems I’ve seen mentioned in another thread or two since release.
Based on that it’s fair to say that it doesn’t seem that the GPU is being utilised correctly in 2024. Hopefully this will be fixed, or one of the main selling points of 2024 wasn’t true at all.
If you guys do not report this to Nvidia and do not let Devs know that this is still happening (even on 4090/64gb systems), they will still call it “Hardware Limitation” and will do nothing about it. Look at that .exe file size!
Worst part is Nvidia probably will release upcoming 5000 series gpus with a new feature, people will jump on them thinking those GPUs will fix this issue.
I have figured out the issue. Do not refer to task manager for GPU usage. The issue with performance is not MSFS utilizing the GPU to it’s fullest extents, it’s the issues caused when the GPU is pushed.
I only just turned it on during my last few sessions. Something I kept experiencing today was the sound stuttering and breaking up while the camera zoomed in loading the flight or going in and out from the pause menu.
Never experienced this before it’s a new one to me.
Simulator stutters could be expected if you’re switching camera views on ground or you’re running out of VRAM. Sound stutters not so much in my experience.
I’ve no FG, never had (3080) still having this issue. Sometimes it shows VRAM overcommitment, sometimes it happens at 80% of the VRAM capacity used. Sometimes DEV mode shows 10Gbyte as maximum VRAM capacity, sometimes it shows only 8Gbyte.
Reducing quality only made the appearance of the issue insignificantly less but it was still unusable at large airports, usually hit during landing few feet above the runway. 30FPS in one second then it becomes 0-3, sometimes 5, depending on the airport. Good luck with the landing.
Only one thing seems to help (or at least helped the most so far) was to disable RayTracing.
The symptoms are the same always: while GPU utilization shows 100%, the temps and power consumption is more similar to 30-40% of GPU performance, DEV mode shows fast GPU calculation latency while it shows extremely slow GPU latency. Hard to say exactly which function is the issue as there are no more clues in the DEV mode FPS meter - even less with other tools.
The high gpu latency happens to me over thick PG trees. Usually around large airports and PG cities. Atlanta, Frankfurt, on the outskirts of Cincinnati. To name few. PG off equals low latency in same areas.
