GPU load 95 % during downloading bonus!

Hello,
During downloading of the bonus data (content manager) the sim is running but can’t be used : CPU load is 43 % and GPU load is greater than 95 %. Why ?
Thank you for an explanation.
Best regards

This thread probably needs to be merged into: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/sent-bug-safe-to-run-gpu-at-100-for-all-the-hours-it-takes-to-download/105288

Thank you for answering but the the suggested page does not exist or is private.
Best regards

As a complement I have observed that if I pause the downloading process the GPU load is lower than 30 % (CPU load lower than 40 %). I don’t understand why the graphical engine is active when such downloading is running.

My main concern is that temperatures are too high (greater than 90 degC) and I can’t let the sim running a lot of hours (low ADSL connexion).

I would like to know if I am alone with such a problem.
Best regards

Yes, that’s a private page from the Alpha/Beta you can’t read it. I’m guessing it finished downloading by now, but in case anyone has the same question, it’s a known issue, and you need to limit your FPS manually from your GPU driver settings to make it use less resources. You can remove the limit after it finishes.

Thank you for the information. Now downloading is finished but it took a lot of time because I had to use pause/resume (temperatures greater than 95 degC and GPU load greater than 95 %).

100% GPU load for a multiday download, what a joke…
My room is turning into a sauna, will check my next electricity bill.

Today I used FireStorm to OC my GPU, and GPU load went down from 100% to 0-1% (!!), GPU temp from 70C to 30C, and download speed more than doubled. Very strange…
Maybe the OC speed settings are too high now, will check later.

I have 95% GPU utilisation on the main menu. They must have something configured wrong somewhere as that is not normal.

I will log a Helpdesk ticket to that end.

I found a very simple workaround; right-click the title bar for MSFS. In the screenshot below, I marked when I right-clicked. Notice that GPU drops to nearly nil while CPU drops to expected levels and the download continues at the same speed. Won’t work too well if you still want to use your PC, but decent enough workaround to get through a night of downloading. Maybe this will help the Devs fix it.

Interesting. What does it do if you are flying, I wonder.

Just tried it and it suspends the flight in mid-air. It of course drops the GPU usage down as the sim isn’t being utilised. So in a nutshell, it won’t do anything for GPU usage unfortunately.

Sadly, my workaround is only effective per update file meaning, the update stops after the current fspackage.xxx finishes downloading. You then have to clear the right-click menu to continue. I suppose this behavior could still be useful with an AutoHotkey script.

Additionally, to those who have persistently claimed that CPU/GPU were being utilized to decompress the files, that’s clearly not the case since all the files are being processed after they’ve all finished downloading; a further insult to injury.

Yes, have it watch the folder for the archive files to disappear, then clear the right click until another partial download appears, then right click again.
