Seeing GTX 1080 as minimum requirement for participating in VR Beta made me wonder that whether this will be a requirement to run VR in MSFS 2020. I sure hope that is not the case.
I have GTX 1070 and have been running DCS/X-Plane (well used to for the latter) for a long time with my WMR Samsung Odyssey +, and I am quite happy with my experience. I am sure I will be able to run VR in MSFS 2020 as well. It will be good to hear from development folks that 1080 is indeed not a requirement but perhaps a preference.
I much prefer to run this program in VR in a slightly lower configuration than on a flat screen. For me, the move from 2D to VR was a one-way transition. There is no going back.
Asobo said previously (I can’t remember where or when) that VR would require some sacrifices in terms of settings. I would hazard a guess that we’ll find out more closer to the VR beta about what we should expect.
I also imagine it’ll depend on the headset - the more pixels per eye, the more grunt the GPU will need to have.
For HP Reverb with its high pixel count maybe a more powerful GPU would be required, but for Samsung HMD even a GTX 1070 can handle it without any problem.
I will be perfectly happy to lower my setting but do not want to see the program to disallow it altogether. Let the user choose those sacrifices in terms of accepted graphics quality. If they are not happy then they can always upgrade.
I doubt that MSFS 2020 is more resource intensive than DCS in High settings.
Same for me, I run the Odyssey + with my rig: i7-3770, 32Gb, GTX 1070. X-plane works beautifully in VR with my rig but with lower settings (no HDR) and most aircraft (the Zibo is taxing, but doable). MSFS runs extremely well on my rig on high settings. Don’t care what the FPS count is, just want to use VR!!
even a much simpler sim/game like Project Cars 2 the graphics have to be turned right down in VR on my RTX2080, where as on my 33 inch superwide screen I can run it on full graphics.
No question users milage out of their rigs varies when it comes to VR. All I am asking Asobo is that please do not cut off users with GPUs lower than GTX 1080 - and BTW, 1070 is not all that behind when it comes to performance. I run DCS without nuch stutter between 35 to 45 FPS in mostly High settings (i7-8700 and 32G.)
Agree. Doing the Japan Tour, I had massive FPS loss and stutters near Tokio. I mean, 10 to 15 FPS there. I’m on a RTX 2080 too, high end settings, 1440p. Never saw more than 60FPS on my system, and that is flying really high on non graphical intensive areas.
Thinking about VR support, I really don’t know how Asobo would achieve some sort of 40/45 FPS in the best possible scenario with this graphics engine based on the performance I’m having on flat screen. May be they can pull a rabbit off the hat with the DX12 implementation, lets wait and see.
VR may be is doable for some people at 20/30 FPS with graphics at lowest settings, no VR supersampling, always on reprojection, etc. If that’s the case, it would be a ■■■■ experience for me.
I really really hope they can finetune the engine for at least medium settings and 45FPS with reprojection active after a little supersampling on my end.
Iam going with a 3090 or 3090Ti if released, your going to need a good head set,for me i have vive cosmos an a htc vive i’ll test both. This is going to be awsome if they do it right.
