About 2.5 hours into my flight. My GPU usage plummeted from 90% and 55-60 FPS to about 40% and 22 FPS. Is this likely the game causing this or potentially an issue with my GPU? I have an RTX 3080.
Thanks.

I’ve done several 3.0+ hour flights (in the previous patch) and I’ve not really noticed any degradation of performance, however if my destination has photogrammetry or heavy AI (or both like KLAX) then fps gets hit. I have a 2080Ti and 64GB of RAM. Do you have the same problem flying into rural locations?
I saw a meaningful drop. From 55 to 20 FPS for about 10 mins. Fans slowed down, usage went way down. How do I figure out whether it’s the game or the GPU that’s the problem? The GPU temp was about 71 before it happened.
And I think it’s independent of rural vs urban. Almost feel like the GPU is throttling itself.
Check your PC’s Power Setting and if on Power Saver, switch it to High Performance or equivalent.
If the GPU had heated up during that time, the default action might be to spin it down to prevent hardware damage. If you have a monitoring utility from the card maker, check Performance when it does. Temp? Fan speed?
The power setting is set to performance.
I am worried my GPU is crapping out. It seems to randomly want to run at 50% power and cuts the avg FPS by half. How can I verify whether the GPU is the problem? Not seeing any unusual temps (70-72 max).
Not sure how you can check, usually components like GPUs are all or nothing, they don’t tend to fail slowly or gracefully.
It’s not only you. I have the same issue and if you look into the forums over at avsim.com there are plenty of people suffering from it.
I never had any performance issues with MSFS but yesterday i had to quit the sim shortly before landing due to FPS drops down to 10. Was about a 2 hour flight.
I usually do multi hour flights up to 7 or 8 hrs and never had any issues.
Thanks. Just reading about it over there. Seems the suggestion is to turn off online services which kills photogrammetry + other stuff. Sucks, was really liking this update.
I have the same Problme like you:
Processor (CPU): Intel 10900k
Memory (RAM): DDR4 32GB PC 4000 CL18 G.Skill KIT (4x8GB) 32GVK Ripjaws
Mainboard: ASUS MAXIMUS XII HERO WIFI
Power supply: Corsair AXi 1600 Watt
Case: HAF X
Graphics card: ASUS ROG STRIX 3090
HDD / SSD: 1x SAMSUNG 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2, 2 TB SSD, internal
I have my 3090 for 2 weeks now. When I play MS Flightsimulator 2020 I start with Ultra 4K with about 43-45 FPS, after about 45-90 min the game starts to no longer 99% utilization of the graphics card, then the utilization always jumps between 55, 67, 76, 83, 91…n% utilization and my FPS thus fall into the basement below 30 FPS.
Now I also noticed that the 3 red lights above the PCI-E connectors are blinking. But I haven’t found anything about this on google search yet.
Restart computer, brings only briefly something
I have also used the search here in the forum, but found nothing.
What a horrible bug. Per Avsim, some folks suggesting that turning off online services cures the issue. How do we make Asobo aware of a major bug like this?
